An emergency meeting of the Federal Executive Council has begun, with President Goodluck Jonathan chairing it.
The meeting, which began at noon at the Council Chambers of the State House, Abuja, is discussing the nationwide protests over the removal of fuel subsidy and the general strike fixed for January 9, 2012 by the Nigeria Labour Congress and Trade Union Congress.
The meeting began at 12.15pm.
Vice-President Namadi Sambo; Labour Minister, Emeka Wogu; and the Minister of National Planning, Shamsudeen Usman, are among those in attendance.
Absent from the meeting are Finance Minister, Mrs. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala and Petroleum Minister, Mrs. Dieziani Alison-Madueke.
FEC last met on December 21 and adjourned till January 11.
