Re: 2012 ExxonMobil Engineering Recruitment (Trainee and Experienced Professionals)
i smell foul play on the side of Dragnet, why didnt they give everyone a level playing ground by informing all that calculators are not allowed, now after fixing their wards and highly connected one to the first batch tuesday morning, they suddenly realized that calculators are not allowed.

guys i have not been reinvited and i got the text saying no calculator is allowed. Also their numbers are not reachable. pls anyone in such situation

Re: 2012 ExxonMobil Engineering Recruitment (Trainee and Experienced Professionals)
@tadbus: send a mail to [email protected] explaining your plight. Just be polite in your querry, and let your previous invite's details be included as a prove. You could do this by forwarding the invitation's email you previously got and just type your querry. With this, i think all your details will be reflected. I was in the same shoe as you are now, and i did that and got my re-invitation yesterday to write today. Also keep on trying the number donivald gave (the one that ends with 80). It's always busy, but it will finally connect if you're patience enough. I think this should help. Goodluck.

These guys really are crap if I must say. In their mind repeating a passage is a way of wasting ppl's time shey? And then the Numerical do say no calculators and u expect someone to divide 1.5million by some odd number and you give answers such as 76,77,78, 80... common who does that?
Only in Naija

These guys should just a get a pool of questions, lots of them. I think they started out good like most other stuff in Nigeria, continuity and consistency at the top is lacking. Dragnet, get your acts together....

EverYone is saying passages were repeated? My Chevron test had nothing in common with the initial Mobil test, and today's test again was completely different! :o

then you my friend are a blessed and highly favoured man...See you at the top, its never crowded up there!
cos the distraction of seeing repeated questions is something else, your brain will keep trying to fool you into remembering the answers while you are still being conscious that something may or could have been changed...this is a big dilemma

really? please i'm very angry! why is my own luck with Dragnet different? lol even their useless abstract reasoning.. for some of them two options are the same, or in some cases its difficult to identify what pattern they have (if any). I guess we all just turn to God for favour!
-
The numerical reasoning was simple, even without a calculator. I was able to finish all the numerical questions in 15minutes. The abstract was also simple. To me, the only difficult part in Dragnet test is the verbal. Though I was able to read all the passages, but I can say much about the verbal. No passage was repeated in my verbal. My verbal, numerical and abstract are all new to me. Let's hope in God for success.
-
I can't say much about the verbal, cos it's the most difficult part in Dragnet test.

Interesting... You my friend are one lucky dude... Really you divided 1.5million with 123.5 and all the rest, Genius!!! ...Aside the nonsense of not using a calculator for an exam that was clearly designed for people to use calculators, it was not bad...
@bolded: That's very strange... From the template, I think dragnet only has 8comprehensions so it is possible to getting a combo entirely new. As for the Abstract, I completely doubt it being new joor...

Re: 2012 ExxonMobil Engineering Recruitment (Trainee and Experienced Professionals)
For the most part the questions in the numerical section could be solved without a calculator. Another minor few could be deduced from the various figures given. But when i got stranded i used the calculator installed in the system. For the first time in three weeks i saw different numerical questions. They also repeated close to 8 even questions in the abstract section that i had seen from the first Mobil and chevron but i don't think it was in anyway an advantage to me. If i missed the first two times i did it chances are it would still happen again. I just don't understand how i had to do the same essay questions from numbers 5-20. I was very scared until i logged on now to see that a handful of people experienced same. In a nutshell i think Dragnet sh*tty. But they would have to wait for me to do the Chevron facilities test before they get their acts right.
-
Re: 2012 ExxonMobil Engineering Recruitment (Trainee and Experienced Professionals)
^ ^ LOLZZZZ!!!! It's true let them wait till after the Chevron test next week before they get their act together coz I have memorized all Dragnet answers after writing for the past 20 years...

They told us that wrote together yesterday that anyone caught using the Calculator on the system will be disqualified from the whole process. I had to close the Calculator on my PC that I had opened and run some test calculations...

Good luck to all those who used the system calc, altho I expected them to ve knocked it off... Imagine some of those systems even have internet access... How irritating

Re: 2012 ExxonMobil Engineering Recruitment (Trainee and Experienced Professionals)
@tripple c, u have a very salient point there. It is indeed arguable dat remembering dat uv previously tackled a problem puts u in a bit of a corner especially when u attempt 2 recall the answer.
But for me personally, plz let them give me repeated questions. I don't have a problem remembring the figures in the numerical section. So an answer like 1/2 or 25,000 shouldn't be a stretch to recall - xpecially when the test is taken not more than 5 days from the new one.
About the no-calculator issue, the basic truth is that those problems can be solved without a calculator. For those rare and seemingly indivisible problems, a good way to tackle them is to approximate reasonably and choose the closest. But again i must admit that one of d problems provided a bit of a drag. When two answers were (something .50 and .75)
and i already approximated to the nearest whole. However, truth is those problems can be solved without any calculators.
And contrary 2 news flying round, fact is no candidate used calculators. I was for the 9am batch, and before we were about starting armed with our calculators, we were told to hand them in.
Folks tried to argue but the Chams personnels said that it was a directive from Mobil. And truth be told no one in the U.K wrote with a calc. when they sat for theirs. (this is a first hand fact from a guy that wrote in the U.k and not just a guess).
Dragnet plz give people more questions for a fairer competition. I don't want sef coz I hope i don't have to write more. My gr8 job is at hand, Amen!
Goodluck!

Re: 2012 ExxonMobil Engineering Recruitment (Trainee and Experienced Professionals)
today EXMB 2012 is the best dragnet test,i have ever done... I was smiling thru out,all the sections was just too easy,i think dragnet has fallen,i did not prepare as i normally do before but i just known the answers.the no calculator policy is a good step. Why? It made the maths so easy, just use ur eyes and calculate, for the english,i just went to the questions(believe me),and the last section, abstract was just like primary school examples,i had extra time to return back to dragnet... In everything i thank God,for a test i just read few books and very short time to prepare for,i was able to smile out....then my chevron next week with just be the unthinkable...
My sceret is very simple, went online and looked for ebooks not from the company main sites but from online greeks and hackers, made cyber friends and they just supply me materials to read,i now have abt 270 ebooks, for the EXMB 2012 test,i read only 3 books...i'm planning to read more before my chervon test...
Always know its takes money and time to make money, there are alot of things the internet have in stock.only if u know what to look for..

I totally agree with you bro, first those questions can be tackled within the time without a calc...though a few are really nutty when you expect someone to choose btw answers separated by just one digit.
as per the second highlight, again you are very correct cos for everyone in the UK centre at Twickenham, no one used a calculator...it infuriated us that our colleagues in Naija were using calculator, but I guess for once there seems to be a level playing ground in this aspect.
but again incompetence is inexcusable, and Dragnet has to step up their game, more questions, more questions and more questions...for crying out loud, you can write shl online in a space of 2 weeks for 2 diff companies and you will get totally diff set of questions. If you have literarily pushed shl out of the market and your market share is constantly increasing...then know that getting to the top may be easy, staying there and maintaining an if possible increasing your lead is not 'beans' (if it is try and cook it, u'll have to wait for hours, loool). You cannot continue doing same things and expect diff results, thats insanity
We have all it takes to give the world quality product and service in Naija, lets play our part...no matter how small we think it is.
One love peeps!!!

Re: 2012 ExxonMobil Engineering Recruitment (Trainee and Experienced Professionals)
Guys, na wah oh!!!! My guy just told me that his verbal was only one comprehension. That is they repeated thesame comprehension throughout his verbal. He initially wondered whether it was system error but he continued because it was no fault of his. Please DRAGNET step up your games. Please oh !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
Re: 2012 ExxonMobil Engineering Recruitment (Trainee and Experienced Professionals)
To reiterate what tripple C and Soidarehome said, you really do not need a calculator for those exams. I think they should have told people before hand that they wouldn't allow calcs so that "those" who rely solely on calculators would have sharpened up their approximation and estimation skills. If you work in the oil field you would know that a good sense of estimation is very essential (not mandatory but it definitely sets you apart). In all honesty, the calculator slows you down. With the exception of some, most of the averages had numbers you could add up in your head way faster than punching your calc. I believe the "sudden" announcement of the no-calculator policy was an attempt by dragnet to drop confidence and try to make candidates perform lower than they did in the cancelled one. Since they only have "recylced" questions, they figured doing that would make the companies think they changed their questions. Personally, i think they are a lazy organization. It doesn't cost anything to set a different exam for every single exam being taken. The GRE is taken one gazillion times a year, yet they have a huge chunck of questions.

Like i said before, they are obviously a lazy organization. Their algorithm is definitely flawed. It should have been set up such that you do not get the same passage more than once. If you get the same passage then it means you're really solving 20 questions in 34 minutes because you are not getting any new information for the other 16 questions.

Re: 2012 ExxonMobil Engineering Recruitment (Trainee and Experienced Professionals)
@ all in this rat race to oil and gas,the lord is our strenght.pls for those invited for chevron facilities engineer (electrical),is there goin to be a skill test apart from usual Dragnet's verbal, numerical and abstract reasoning tests, why am asking is cos there are up to four (4) variants of facilities engineer some with graduate level some not.pls guys did theirs last week,am soliciting on behalf of those invited to she more light and my mail from chevron says come with ur calculators!!.any useful comments is highly welcomed.

Re: 2012 ExxonMobil Engineering Recruitment (Trainee and Experienced Professionals)
Well, ppl keep insisting that you don't need calcs for the test, but I beg to disagree if only I can reproduce all my questions. My thinking is dragnet is got some weird algorithm in place that has no particular format in ordering one's test, cos really, how do you explain someone having 2 comprehensions repeated and anoda 1 and anoda none.... As a matter of fact, this should be sounded out to who ever cares to listen, dragnet obviously have got a very small pool of questions to draw from hence this gaff on their side. I really do hope a lot of person pass yet again so that MOBIL can use their own real test which SHL... I rest ma case

I agree with you on the algorithm flaw, cos while some people got only short passages, others a fine blend opf short and long, I got 4 long passages the type you have to scroll down to read the ret of the passage. and coming to think of it that some people had 2 passages repeated and one person claiming he actually got only one passage...as in one passage repeated 4 time, loooooool (omo see favour, lol), Dragnet is just a mockery of everything an aptitude test stands for.
But brother, apart from the initial shock one who has practiced with calculators will have once he steps into the hall and receives the surprise, I still believe the questions can be tackled without calc and you still have between 2-5 mins to spare depending on the pool/batch of questions you receive for the day.
Again incompetence is inexcusable, this does not in any way imply that Dragnet is doing alright, they sure will drag themselves into their own nets sooner than they can even imagine it
-
It is bad for Dragnet to repeat comprehension passages, as mine wasn't repeated. I strongly agree that this numerical can be solved without a calculator. I did mine without a calculator and I was able to finish on time. If Dragnet repeats this numerical in Chevron test next week, then I won't need a calculator for the test. If Dragnet's tests were only based on numerical and abstract, then I won't be scared of 85 percent cut-off mark. To me, verbal is the only challenge in Dragnet test, though I was able to read all the passages and answer all in verbal, but I'm not too sure of my answers in verbal.

Re: 2012 ExxonMobil Engineering Recruitment (Trainee and Experienced Professionals)
One thing dat keep botherng me is why nigerian organisatns are grossly incompetent? Is it somtin abt us nigerians? Listen to testimonies emanatng 4rm here? Imagine a friend told me he had just 12 questions in his abstract sections and virtually all were repeat of canceld one which he already had. I dont think this incompetence is just abt dragnet, it is somthng dat hv pervaded our land? I ask: is mobil not supose to second pple to dragnet to ensure d test were fair esp afta d first shock? Did they hv a single rep in those halls? If not, why? They fail in dat regard too. Above all, Nigeria stinks. We seem unable to get anythng done well. Not just in dragnet but everywhere. Too, too sad.

brother...in as much as I would not have you cast Naija like this, I however will agree with you...but, I will still ask you the same question I ask anyone who cares about Naija; What is the way forward? Are you doing anything to remedy the situation??? cos peeps only look at the Abj based guys, but see our conduct in as little as an aptitude test in this house...so what are you doing in your own way to remedy the situation?????
Its good to list everything that is not right with Naija, but how do we o about fixing them...from your own perspective, and in your own capacity?
One love bro
