The Federal Government is to develop a job creation plan to address youth unemployment, Youth Development Minister, Senator Akinlabi Olasunkanmi has said.

Opening a national workshop on the creation of a youth employment action plan in Abuja, Olasunkanmi said it would be a multi-sectoral plan as recommended by the United Nation (UN) in 2001.

The minister, according to a statement given to The Nation in Lagos yesterday, advocated the establishment of vocational clubs in primary and secondary schools, adding that the demand and supply side of labour must be considered in addressing youth unemployment.

He such a venture had been successful in Singapore, Malaysia, Ghana, Indonesia, India, Kenya and Tanzania.

He said: "The plan when concluded will create jobs in various sectors for our youth."

The plan, he said, would include the entrenchment of entrepreneurship spirit in national life, the introduction and enhancement of the National Open Apprenticeship Scheme, the creation of youth business system, the introduction of vocational skills at all levels of the education system and creation of jobs for youths through public works, environment, health, education, the arts and sports development.
