    MCSE/MCITP: Learn How Server 2003/2008 User Authentication Works

    For those who desire the job of an Administrator either in a Microsoft Windows Server 2003 or 2008 Environment. Most of our earliest tasks will be to understand an implement User Authentication. What this imply is that; you’ll be required to have an enterprise application of the issue such as;

    User Profiles: Each organisation has its own policies, so, as an Administrator, you will have to know how to implement different kinds of Profiles for your organisation, be it: Local, Roaming, or Mandatory Profile.

    Configuration of Home Directory: This is essential because it avails the user who logs on to the domain via the client to have it profile settings stored centrally on a file server.
    Thus, it makes sense to map specific home directory for any user that we want.
    There are two sides to configuring this, I’ll need to state the home directory path of the user via its properties in the Active Directory Users & Computers (Server 2003) or ADDS (Server 200.

    Smart Cards
    : Smart Cards provide two part authentication, namely, Passwords/Pin and the Physical Card. Really smart card is basically like your ATM card which is inserted into a Reader. The reader has a USB end which is connected to the computer.
    But that’s not what makes it work. The card needs an information to be stored on it, and this is where Issuing Certificates through Certification Authority comes in.
    You must know how to enroll certificates for smart card users.
