Community Outreach Coordinator
Nigeria Comprehensive Care and Treatment Program for HIV/AIDS (HACCI) is a five year Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)-funded program under the United States President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) implemented by University Research, Co. (URC). The program’s objectives include the strengthening of HIV/AIDS care and treatment services in Enugu and neighbouring States in Nigeria, by providing quality services in anti-retroviral therapy (ART), Prevention of Mother to Child Transmission (PMTCT), HIV counselling and testing, laboratory infrastructure, tuberculosis (TB)/HIV integration, Basic Care and Support for People Living with HIV/AIDS and Orphans and Vulnerable Children (OVC). The project is based in Enugu, Nigeria and works with the public and the private sector.
The project is seeking an experienced Community Outreach coordinator to support the project by mobilizing catchment communities to utilize prevention, care and treatment services in supported health facilities and reducing stigma in the communities. This position will report to the Chief of Party.
Main Responsibilities of Job:
  • Work with community outreach volunteers and community leaders to mobilize communities to utilize prevention, care and treatment services in supported health facilities and to reduce stigma in the communities.
  • Establish linkages between communities and health facilities, supported by URC.
  • Develop strategies and plans for community outreach activities.
  • Train community outreach volunteers and document training activities.
  • Plan and conduct refresher/follow-up trainings for volunteers.
  • Monitor and evaluate community volunteer activities to ensure that they are contributing to the goals of the project.
  • Provide regular supportive supervision and motivation to volunteers.
  • Identify hard to reach communities and high risk groups for outreach/Mobile HCT and organize these outreaches in collaboration with the HCT coordinator.
  • Work closely with Referral Coordinator, the Home-based Care/Orphans and Vulnerable Children Program Officer, and the HIV/AIDS Clinical Advisor in planning and implementing services to ensure that clients receive a continuum of care.
  • Prepare monthly report on Community Outreach activities.
  • Participate in project meetings and represent URC in community meetings and other forums.
  • Manage the development of job aids and other materials to support the work of community volunteers.
  • Be responsible for administering transport support and other incentives for community volunteers.
  • Stay up-to-date on developments and state-of-the-art in community mobilization for HIV/AIDs and other related topics.
Qualifications:
  • University degree in public health, social work, sociology, health education or nursing. Additional qualifications will be an added advantage.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English; ability to speak Ibo and communicate effectively with community members.
  • Familiarity with Ibo culture.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously, set priorities, and work independently.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to work in a team oriented, culturally diverse environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, sound judgment, communication skills, and ability to identify and resolve policy and operational constraints effectively.
  • Willingness to work weekends, evenings, and travel to communities.
Experience:
  • Minimum of five years experience in community outreach or mobilization related to health, preferably for HIV/AIDS and stigma reduction.
  • Experience training and supervising community volunteers.
  • Experience in providing HIV testing and counselling, in particular mobile HCT will be an added advantage.
  • Ability to use MSOffice: Word, Excel, PowerPoint
