How come come nobody is talking about the experienced hire positions advertised namely reservoir viz 5 -10 years, subsurface engr, project engr, construction engr and safety and environmental engrs. Are they also partaking in the skills test? What's next for folks in this category?

Reallistically, if you have cognate experience in the categories mentioned above, you probably won't be taking any test at all. As far as i am aware, most of the experienced candidates that took the test either have 1-3yrs or have experience in "other" industries. I think if you are a Reservoir Engineer with at least 5years experience with an operator, it is an insult for any company to ask you to write an aptitude test.
Most of the experienced "oil" guys who wrote the test are either MWD, Mud guys, cementing guys etc with service companies

Re: 2012 ExxonMobil Engineering Recruitment (Trainee and Experienced Professionals)
Hi all. After 2 days surfing the net I've still found it difficult coming up with an effective strategy for the skills test. Guess I av to rely on sound residual knowledge and pray all goes well. So far all i have been able to gather is that the questions r objs which last abt 1hr. will we be allowed to use calculators? whats the likely time lapse btw the test and interviews?
Secondly, is it possible interviews r conducted the same day?
Any civil engr who has taken this test shd kindly help!!!, I NEED DIRECTION.
Goodnight

While i am not a civil engr, i would assume your focus should be on mechanics, strength of materials as it applies to the oil industry. Sub structure tensile stress and strain calcs should be at your fingertips. Success in the skills test will strongly depend on how "sound" your undergrad was. You should be able to deduce calculations without thinking too much. The use of calculators is irrelevant. You are no longer in the aptitude stage and a calculator will not give any advantage. If the problems require calculators, they'll let you use them. Considering the number of candidates, i doubt the interview will be the same day. (Don't quote me on that oo)

P.S. If you can grab a hold of a Schaum's Outlines book too for quick revision before using this ebook, that will be good.

Hello, pls where you provided with steam tables and all necessary equations?:confused:
-
@ chemical engrs., no sheet of equations (NO). Those questions re normal questions, no ambigious equation required. Study all required for chemical engrg. I can recall one heat capacity chart was given as part of question not separate and can't recall seeing any steam table.

Schaum's Outlines Theory and Problems of Basic Electrical Engineering
http://depositfiles.com/files/yquszv9nb
I hope to print this out tomorrow and use it for some revision till Saturday. A friend who has taken the skills test before said told me that the other PDF ebook I posted earlier is too advanced for the skills test.

Re: 2012 ExxonMobil Engineering Recruitment (Trainee and Experienced Professionals)
@justice59 and @peleke thanks. Pls were most of dem calculations? Or balance of calc and theory
-
@Justice59, thanks for the info, can u be more explicit? Were there more calculations? What topics were asked? Was it objective all through? Advise us on how to succeed. Cheers
-
Again. Don't waste any time reading all the topics in chemical engrg. Get a good text that consist of summary of all core topics in chem. Engrg. They re normal questions. Processes-adibatic, reversible, polytropics. That How far we can go. Do ur reading. Success.

Just a tip from d last skills test conducted.
D Mech test consisted of abt 45 obj questions to b ans'd in 60 mins.
Topics covered were mainly turbo-machinery, as such is tilted in favour of those who picked options in Automotive Engineering Technology and Air-condition and Ref'gn Engrg.
Turbo-machinery such as Compressors, Turbines, Pumps, pressured vessels, heat exchangers etc, as they relate to oil and gas processing, storage and transportation.
These definitely have a lot to do with, Heat and Mass Transfer, Fluid mechanics and mechanics of machines where things as inclined planes and basic mechanics is invloved.
I hope this helps, I wish Ÿ̲̣̣̣̥ø̲̣̣̥u̶̲̥̅̊ all d best, I will update as I recall.
