OFFICE MANAGER – RESEARCH ASSISTANT
Role

Reporting to the Senior Analyst (Afghanistan) and working in close cooperation with the South Asia Operations Manager you will oversee the administration of the Kabul office and assist with research tasks as directed.

Responsibilities

Office management:

Ensure that Crisis Group financial records are kept up to date, pay bills, submit accounting records to headquarters in Brussels, maintain an accurate record of transactions, and undertake banking duties as necessary;
Arrange for maintainance of the equipment at the Crisis Group office
Coordinate the distribution of Crisis Group reports, and maintain the computerized distribution list;
Oversee the efficient functioning of the office, ensure the office is kept clean and tidy, and other duties as necessary;
Maintain subscriptions to relevant newspapers and electronic news and information services;
Provide assistance to Crisis Group staff members and visitors with visas, appointments and scheduling.
Research assistance:

Research conflict issues in Afghanistan and possibly other countries in the region relevant to South Asia program areas as directed by the Senior Analyst;
Prepare advocacy materials and plans; and,
Prepare reports and attend meetings on behalf of the Senior Analyst if required;
Liaise with Crisis Group advocacy offices to ensure regular flow of information to and from the Kabul office.
Requirements

Good understanding of political sciences or international relations, preferably with a strong academic record of achievement;
Experience of living or working in Afghanistan an advantage;
Practical experience of office and financial administration;
Familiarity with office hardware and software and proven IT skills;
Excellent spoken and written English. Other languages an asset;
Well organised person, proactive self-starter, able to work as part of a team as well as independently.
