Hi,
Life in Sweden used to be very great..But my friend that left for Sweden last year said his set was the last set of
international student exempted from tution fees. He is currently studying financial engineering there.
In general, to make cash in Europe while still a student, you must understand the language of the country where you reside. The English language is not as popular in Sweden as it is in Germany or in Switzerland. So you would have to learn the Swedish language in order for you to stand a good change of securing a part time job..However, nothing is impossible.
Give me details of the school that gave you admission..Is the admission for undergraduate studies, masters or PhD ?

Re: QUESTIONS ON STUDYING ABROAD
Hi, i really want to know how possible it is to study for masters in the u.k and pay the tuition fee 100% (10,000 GBP) working while schooling. Is this feasible? How feasible?

Re: QUESTIONS ON STUDYING ABROAD
Sorry guys for my late response. I was busy filling out some application forms here and there.. As a rule, I hate talking about the UK because that place is just too saturated for my liking...People are even running back to Nigeria..However, that does not mean some Nigerians are not doing well there..For instance, one of my guys just got a graduate job there in one reputable energy company after his masters. If you want to go and study in the UK, then you must have your own cash to pay your bills, tuition inclusive..Yes, you may get some menial jobs here and there, but the money you will make will not be sufficient for you to live and pay tuition..Even UK schools find it very hard to give international master*s students scholarships..That country is so´bendy,,
My counsel to you is to save a lot of money before you decide to go study in the UK. However, if you are a high flyer with a very good undergraduate degree, say a first or a good 2:1, then you may apply for the Gates scholarship in Cambridge..A guy we both graduated from Unilag got the scholarship immediately after graduation. The guy is done now and he currently works for Shell UK..You may also apply to one of these Erasmus programmes..If you get the scholarship, you get paid about 250Naira per month(one thousand plus Euro).
In summary, it all depends on a combination of your account and your undergraduate result..

Re: QUESTIONS ON STUDYING ABROAD
Hi,
I applied for admissiom into a graduate program ( Masters) in 2 Canadian universities - University of Saskachewan, Saskatoon and Dalhouse University, Halifax. So, i am presently expecting admission decision come January ending or anytime in February ds year. If given admission, i plan to go there with my family - my spouse and 2kids(3&5yrs old). Will the embassy grant me and my family the visa - hope they wont say i am not likely gpoing to return? Or should i go first and later request they join me?
Also, as regards the financial ability, i do not have millions in my account to show as part of the application documents, what kind of methods or ways can one go around it as i am very new in this studying abroad of a thing?
I want you to generally give me hints on how i can be very successful in obtaining a visa if given admission eventually - which i believe the prospect is very bright.
Thank you.

Re: QUESTIONS ON STUDYING ABROAD
Good questions and thank you for them. Again sorry for my late response..I just slept off!
I do not really know much about visas that cover an entire family..Start a topic on this on forum. Nigerians in the disapora will be happy to answer your questions..I will just say one or two things nonetheless..
Now, everybody wants to go to Canada, even my friends in the UK. The natural question is, why? Well, the simple answer is that Canada is not as ridiculously saturated as the UK..That said, I would have to ask you a number of questions. Did you just apply ´to study at those Canadian universities or you applied to also be considered for some sort of scholarship(s)?
Now, concerning the visa application thingy for you and your family, well you must be able to prove that you can simply take care of your children, and as you would guess, the only way to prove that is by financial buoyancy, that is, the robustness of your dom account..Except, of course, the university wishing to give you a place clearly states that funds will be provided to support you and your family..
With regard to applying for a visa at the Canadian embassy in Nigeria, you just have to convince them that even if you don´t come back, you are financially capable to take care of yourself and your family in Canada..There is no way to say that you will come back to Nigeria any time soon since you will be going to their country with your family..That is the part they will likely quiz you on.
I know of a guy who stayed in Germany for two years before he decided to bring his wife and child..I think as at the time he came to Germany, his wife had not put to bed—she was just pregnant. But he was always visiting home.. The guy came to Germany on scholarship and after about 17 months of staying in Germany, he successfully invited his wife and child, and they had no problems getting a visa in Naija. Based on this very myopic premise, if I were in your shoes, I would go to Canada, establish myself within a few months and then invite my family…You see, those Oyinbos are looking for people to come and spend money in their country, not otherwise.

It is even best if you get a grant or scholarship from the school..As in my case, you just walk into the embassy and demand a visa, straight :D It is God o..
About prospects, well I think it is much, much easier to get a visa to Norway than to the US..That does not mean that Norway is really inferior..Plus you must take the GRE or GMAT and TOEFL before you can even get a place in the US, but you do not need such to get a ver nice place in Norway.. If you don´t have money to spend on all those useless standardized tests, I advise you to then apply to study in Norway..But you have to contend with the cold there..Shengen region cold pieces
Hope this helps

The British grading system is not universal..Not every professor or university knows about our grading system.. Do you know about the cumlaude system? I am sure you don´t. In the same way, they do not understand your second class.. You may check this for scholarships in Europe..Each scholarship pays about 250K naira equivalent per month..http://eacea.ec.europa.eu/erasmus_mu...courses_en.php

Re: QUESTIONS ON STUDYING ABROAD
igboeve ,
thanks alot, u are really adding value to our lives but then again, i know of some schools in the usa that dont need GRE and GMAT or even toefl b4 u can gain admission, that is to say in their admission requirements no need for those stuff.
can the embassy overlook those standardized test for schools that dont need them, or will they still insist on the test whether the schools need it or not.
once again u are indeed kind, wish u can send me a mail, my address is : [email protected] so we could talk beta.

Re: QUESTIONS ON STUDYING ABROAD
Hi LG,
I was unconsciously waiting for the argument you gave. I am jocund you brought it up..The good thing is that you have answered the question yourself..The school gives you admission, the embassy gives you visa to go to the school. Without visa, no way to school abroad..Schools abroad cannot dictate to embassy, they can only plead..Embassy requires at least one of those standardized tests....Now draw the conclusion, which is superior between the school and the embassy? :(

Re: QUESTIONS ON STUDYING ABROAD
GRE and TOEFL open a cornucopia of study opportunities. If you do well on the quantitative section of the GRE, you stand a good chance of getting a very generous scholarship..My guy in KAUST gets about $30K per annum after accommodation...Imagine that.. If it is business school you want to attend, then GMAT will land you a nice place with scholarship too..But you have to very well ace the GMAT.
My take on the exam is simple..Learn from those who have successfully done it and have successfully used it to get very nice scholarships--See, en, some people use scholarship money to earn a living, and they live big too because the money is not taxed..You even make more money than your friends who have been working for three years. And you know what? when you finish the programme, you stand a good chance of getting a very nice job and being their boss...These were people that started working before you ???
Visit http://www.urch.com/forums/just-finished-my-gre/ to learn from the GRE masters who have done and aced the GRE..

In addition to my previous response, I would like to add that the GRE exam is done everyday!!! Not something that happens every half a year..I recently registered somebody who did it on the 29th of December 2010..The dude has been applying to institutions..He wants to earn big money as a student :(

Hallo Vozkini, I can assure you that you will soon buy the latest Volkswagen Bora >:(
Actually, as I earlier said, nobody knows 1, 2:1, 2:2 in the Schengen part of Europe..Mind you, Europe is not only UK..The fact that we use the above grading system in our universities in Nigeria does not mean everyone in the globe knows about it.. My counsel is for you to package your application very well and apply months before the deadline..In so doing, you stand a chance of getting a juicy admission and may be with scholarship..The admissions are still on..It closes in January nadir.
If you are a graduate of one of the physical sciences, then you may like to take advantage of the following opportunity http://www.nexteinstein.org/study..

GMAT,
Yes, you need your transcripts..The way our institutions make a big deal out of giving us our own transcripts that we worked for with our own sweat is ludicrous to me..I remember missing an opportunity at the University of Alberta some three years ago because my undergraduate institution failed to send my transcripts to the admissions committee in Alberta..The most annoying part of everything then was that I paid for the transcripts to be sent ???.
I think public health is great in the US or in Canada..UK is not bad for doctors too. GMAT! you don´t need because it is for business schools..You only need both TOEFL and GRE! If you change your mind and decide to go to the UK, you should take IELTS..Basically, IELTS is a UK English proficiency test while TOEFL belongs to ETS-the US. As a doctor, which I guess you are, you should not have any problems with these standardized tests..You brain is bigger than them ???.. You stand a chance of studying free of charge if you can do well on these standardized tests..Basically, doing well means scoring at least 100/120 in the TOEFL and at least 1220/1600 in the GRE.. My former classmate scored 118/120 in the last TOEFL he did.It may please you to know that he is now in the US for graduate studies.. Hope this helps----
So, as a synopsis, YES you need your transcripts, NO alternative; generally schools in Europe do not need standardized tests and finally take the tests if you really need the scholarship...my two cents... :o

Nice one!
A college is like what you people call a faculty in Nigeria.
A university is a collection of colleges.. In other words, a college is a subset of a university that is the superset.
Having a master`´s in a particular course from a college means that your master`s is somehow specialized..With a master`s from a university, you are sure of a panoramic knowledge...
Hope this answers your question..

You have zilch problems if you at least did well in your undergraduate studies, especially if your GPA is near 4 or even above..All you need do is take and ace the TOEFL and GRE...The scholarships will come..

To get a scholarship from Oyinbo people, you need to prove that you are indeed worth it, and the only way to prove this is with your transcripts..It is unfortunate how our universities in Nigeria make a big deal out of issuing us our transcripts and thereby denying us of some available opportunities abroad. The idea SHA is to device a way to get your transcripts 8)..Call it ruse, I don`'t care...
Robert Gordon University is a high way to work for oil companies upon completion of your master´s programme. A number of people I heard of got oil company jobs after their master´s programmes there...You see, I don`t trust UK universities..They may even give you admission without your transcripts--All they need is your money..UK, I sabi them well well. Yes, it is possible to get a job while studying in the UK, but it could be difficult at times..Nonetheless, you stand a good chance because as an educated Nigerian you speak good English language and so you should have no language barrier. My friends who did their master´s in the UK, one in Scotland, were able to get some menial jobs while studying
Still try to send them your transcripts if you have them.. :'( You may never know...

Being someone who has an eye for oil companies, I would go with Scotland :D..In addition, the cost of living in scotland is much, much lover than the cost of living in the UK, at least on the average-- Cost of education in scotland is lower than in the UK..Immigration laws in Scotland are friendlier than those in the UK..The UK government is looking for ways to send non UK nationals packing by creating unbearable laws here and there..On the whole, the UK is saturated with too many qualified people competing for very few opportunities..This does not mean you will not get some chances to make it in the UK..But the question is, what is the probability? :'(

Cost wise, EM is better...MBA is simply pricey! Every other thing wise, MBA and blah blahhhh is preferable. With an MBA, you can work anywhere; you also have all the necessary theoretical skills to start up your own stuff. You will even rise to the management level of any organization..It is only a matter of time and also getting a good job in the first place. With EM, the best you can be in any organization is head of so so so dept or dept manager..Nonetheless, the good thing about EM is that you can be a consultant to all these oil and energy companies someday :). The environmental stuff is also attractive to oil and gas recruiters...In case you did not know, another name for petroleum engineering is environmental engineering..So environmental management is analogous to petroleum management. ;D
This would be my personal take, if I were faced with both options....
