why dont you start.Give a range!
35 TO 40K
FOR ME O ITHINK IT SHOULD BE BETWEEN 60K AND 100K.BUT YOU KNOW FINGERS
BUT FOR NAIJA HERE NO BE SO, ANYTHING WEY YOU SEE MY BROTHER YOU BETTER TAKE IT BECAUSE IF YOU REFUSE SOMEONE ELSE WILL TAKE IT UP.
HALF BREADIS BETTER THAN NONE.
Considering the economic situation in nigeria, I would say an average of N150000.
Setting a standard for Renumeration as a fresh graduate might be a difficult task. Most interview require the applicant to state a figure for his/her renumeration. At this point the applicants gets tensed. This decision shouldn't be borne out of sentiment.
Here is a quick calculator:
1. What are my "natural" skills - Talents are very important factor to put into consideration. It runs in our day-to-day activity. REMEMBER - People get paid for there talent.
2. What are my "learnt" skills - Learnt skill at this point is not all about your first degree(BSc). Its how far you have been able to add value to your first degree. This could come in form certifications, practical training etc.
3. How vast is my knowledge of the job - If you find yourself applying for a job you know so much about and you are sure your contribution will transform the organisation. Dont bid for peanuts but pls be considerate with pricing. It is important!!!
4. Previous paid employments - This is the simplest of all. Previous paid jobs will serve as a good yardstick for what you bid for in your new job. A proper understanding of the firm's organisational structure will do you good.
Note: The list is inexhaustible.
Never state a figure you cannot defend and dont let your economic demands decide for you. It will be wrong to state N150,000 when you cannot defend it. Also dont sell yourself so as low as N20,000 when you are worth more. Its a hard decision.
Remember it is part of the Interview and you will be judged by it.
ALL D BEST
So deepsee putting ur self in that condition of interview, what will be ur respond?
I worked for a leading IT firm during NYSC and i was retained immediately after and started on a salary of N80k subject to my confirmation. After being confirmed, it could go as high as N150K depending on highly im appraised by my boss.
If u are a graduate with a 2'1.. never settle for less than 60K or in the worse case 50K, cuz u are worth so much more. Goodluck to everyone.
Matthew1981
Putting myself in the same condition I will state N200,000 Thats my minimum, you can be sure I can defend that figure.
Cheers
I think a starting salary btw 120-150k aint bad at all.
Between 60,000 - 150,000 depending on the organisation.
i think its should depend on your grade.but shld be from 50 above :-\
I think between 70,000 - 150,000 depending on the organisation.
As for me i think 90k and above depending on ur skills and the organisation.neither underprice nor overprice urself.goodluck.
hi guyz, pls dont you think a salary of 200,000 is asking for too much. I feel the range should be between 60000 and 120000.[color=beige]
I think a salary btw 80000-170000 for an entry level graduate in acceptable depending on the org. since this will not stay at the amt.
5ok is ideal for a start but the issue is on the location.
for me it all depends on the organisation, its services and how they cater for thier staffs. i would say 100,000 provided such an employee has the neccessary skills to back it up
The best salary for fresh graduate in Nigeria suppose to be range 60 to 80k. It also depends on organisation and location. cheers! :) 8) ::)
1. Calculate your rent
2. Calculate your transport
3.Calculate your 'dress for job cash'
4. Calculate your fiance/fiancee, guy/wifey expenditure ;D (varies)
5.Calculate how much u want to send to your folks
6.Calculate how much u want to give to your God
7.Calculate the minimum u can live on
There so u have a basic rudimentary figure, anything less is cutting ur fingers. Lets say this is like 50K...it may be small but bear with me.
Now think of the value u can add to an organization and multiply that rudimentary figure by by a factor of b/w 1.5 and say 2. The basic implication of this is that as a fresh starter, u can improve performance by one and a half times so u should expect to get paid proportional to that....ur minimum should therefore b4 between 75k and 100k.
But this is all good maths and good on paper, what if the company is willing to pay like 70K and no more.....u might have to 'humble yourself' and just start with that. Consider it as a step in ur journey. Besides its easier to ask for pay increase based on performance after u have started working than to be negotiating starting salary!!
am out of time..shld drop my opinion wen l come online next time....this is a good one..you gotta know wat u r worth.
hi everyone, i think it all depends on where u applied 2 and your worth, if its a multinational firm or in the 'oil companies' then 120 to 180k is not a bad start. however, if its a small private firm then btw 50 n 80 its not bad.
it all depends on the kind of job n ur starting stage. goodluck
for my freshers collegue all these 'moneys' beign called is mouth watering. its no where compared with the 8500 got in the NYSC. we cant wait to have a taste of it :P
Well, I took my time to read all your points, I must confess that everyone made good point. In Nigeria, we should not forget that their is no regulatory body hence anything you get with time just keep your eyes open, when the opportunity of a better pay arises with the experience you have gather while doing that 50-80k job you will be better off. I just left my HR office's before typing this in, I was offered aponitment with a 70K month take home, only for him to ask me to come see him in his office....can you guess what happen? He told me that he made a mistake, that the salary should be 65k, I was mad at first but then this is the only one I have. You must consider the transportation fare from your house to the office, your rent, feeding (lunch if your company is like mine where lunch is not serve, but mama put...you know na) and the rest. Then you can take the job but be rest assured that others are waiting for you to make the mistake so that they can jump at a lower than your demand salary.
Good luck
@anifel20....
Dats wisdom u just displayed...wisdom is profitable to direct.
In as much as folks like2get correct and mouth watering offers, b careful not to despise little beginnings...U just hit the job, changing jobs is somwat easier [dan securing the first job]...also dont under price ur sef o
I personally have turned down 20k,35k,40k, even 65k...though na personal opinions [based on my assessment of the coys involved]
50k
Guys,
A good Salary for a fresh graduate is one that can make you satisfied, one that can make you put in your best in your work, one that can make you workout, one that can take care of your feeding, housing, clothing and most especially, you have some savings left at every month.
What i'm I saying here, a fresh graduate at every month should take home one hundred thousand naira and above(Nigeria currency).
Guys,
Research.
I don't even know what to say after reading all what you have said but as for minimum of 50k
remmenber this is Naija.
depending on location , areas tend to determine the pay packet and also workplace.
well after all the Laborer is worth of his wage, it all depend on what the organization can afford for start but to be honest 80-100k isn’t bad, if u can go through the 4 wall of higher institution for at least 4-5 years u should be able to defend such salary

na wa o,dis na realy naija.....
wel i tihink it depends on the organisation,
your skill,grade and location.
take anyone you see first then look 4 a better one
at all at all na im bad pas.
All of Us go Hammer
.....I Love U All
Hi guys, you've all done well but there are some critical issues you should examine and understand. I have rejected several offers up to 70K and I can accept some offers lower than that. It all depends on the coy and what you stand to gain at the end of the day.
I just resigned in my present coy and they are offering me 200K but I am turning it down. I am crazy right! I have an offer from Nokia for less than that but consider this: relocation benefit, brand new Kia Cerato that is fully serviced for 3yrs is attached to me, which would eventually become mine after 3yrs, then they'd give me another higher grade car to go on and on like that, less work load and stress-free, job satisfaction, multinational environment, national and international training, exposure, rapid promotion, job security, unalloyed allowances, monthly telephone bills of up to 20k, bonuses up to 40k depending on performances etc.
Another fact is that I'd worked sometimes before while I earned 15k... absurd isn't it? The bottom line is that you should not under-price or over-price yourself but you should value yourself, though the situation in the country is not really helping matters like the law of demand and supply... job seekers are far far more than jobs available by 80-20.
1. You should know the coy - small, medium or enterprise (multinational)
2. Your passion for the job
3. Your time, which is the most important... time is money - with time you can apply for a better job and be able to go for tests/interviews... without this, you are trapped even if you earn 100k for a start
4. Career growth and development
In short, money should not be your priority at this time but relevant experience that can take you to wherever and whenever. Afterall, I know some people who are ready to pay for relevant experience other than get paid.
from 50k is ok.but much depends on what kind of job u are asked to do.......
50 yo 70k. cheers.
just be wise...
A company might offer less moni....but u can leverage it with intensive training...dats worth it...u know...from there, u can zap anytime
Hello Naija,
Well I am new here and I really enjoy doing this. In my own opinion, well I'm still a student but I am undergoing an IT programme in a reputable firm, and with what I see there, just stick to what you get at the start but to mention a figure, I'll start with 80k.
Phemistry
Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm U guys are doing great i must say. ??? this is a very good question .for me the salary depends on the organisation ur applying for.one cannot compare a starting salary of any oil company with d one of lets say DHL ,MTN, Banks private sectors. so it depends on d company. but for a graguate that has passed through the four wall of a higher institution should be asking from 80k up i guess its not much shaa. :)
Cheers.
Hi, one thing u hav to remember is that some employers are cheap, i mean so tightfisted esp wen it comes to freshies, they know u're new in the employment business, so they think u're desperate.
But guess what, wen u look at the circs surrounding the job u r seeking, eg the kind of organisation, how much they make etc, then u can pitch ur price. Like everyone has been saying, never too high and NEVER too low.
Come on, u paid THOUSANDS to become a graduate, maybe millions, so why do u hav to settle for peanuts? Think, more money means more incentive to work harder. I wish all bosses could remember that!
Hi, I've read everything so far and I agree it depends on a lot of factors. is it in the private sector?,a multi-national, government job,a small- medium sized enterprise, etc? then it also depends on you.First where are u coming from and where are you going to?will 50k take you there?
U know I always say it is a question of negotiation skills and what you have to offer to ur employer.u may start with 50 and work up to 80 in less than 1 yr.that i think is a good start.
well i think the salary you should demand should be equvilant to the quality of value you think you have to offer. But with all the stress a nigerian graduate as to go tru b4 gaining admission and graduating...plus strikes Habba!, Please that should be worth a salary of at least a 100k per month. :)
