Program Coordinator, Scholarship Program

Azariah Foundation Inc. is a US registered non-profit organization established in October 2007. Our mission is to empower less-privileged children in African communities to maximize their potential and, in turn, give back to their communities. Through the Azariah Scholarship program, Azariah sponsors high-achieving children from less privileged backgrounds for all 6 years of secondary education. We also provide educational, social and mentoring opportunities to enhance the academic performance, social and career options of our scholars.

Our vision is to change African communities, one child at a time. We endeavor to instill a sense of community ownership in our scholars. It is our goal that our scholars graduate with clear life goals and are equipped with the tools to accomplish them, as well as a strong desire to contribute to their societies and help the children who come after them.

The Program Coordinator will oversee all aspects of the scholars program including monitoring the students, managing the mentoring program, and developing and maintaining relationships with external constituencies.

DUTIES:

Secondary school liaison:

* Monitor scholars’ academic performance to ensure they are on track to meeting Azariah’s grade requirement. Receive mid-term and end of term report cards from the schools. Identify any problem areas and report to the president. Discuss with president and implement steps to rectify problems.

Mentoring program coordinator:

* Work with president to prepare a mentoring plan of action. Prepare and update training materials as well as Policies and Procedures for participants.
* Recruiting mentors:
o Identify and screen interested candidates
o Train and match mentors with Azariah scholars. Provide continuous support and supervise mentor-mentee relationship.
o Check in with mentor periodically for progress report on their mentees
* Plan mentor/mentee semi-annual group events as well as recognition activities for successful program participants
* Program evaluation activities – report to president
* Develop and manage relationships with schools, training centers, and community-based organizations
* Complete other duties and activities as needed

QUALIFICATIONS:

* Minimum Bachelor’s degree or equivalent from a recognized institution
* Demonstrated passion for education and community development
* Extremely driven, self-starter. Ability to work with limited supervision.
* Two or more years work experience in the education sector, mentoring and youth development, corporate philanthropy or related field preferred.
* Extremely strong organizational, writing, verbal, and interpersonal skills
* Creativity and flexibility are essential as well as an ability to multi-task


The person will report directly to the president and will be employed initially for a 3-month probationary period. Upon successful completion of this period, he/she will be hired full time. Azariah is committed to developing staff members and quarterly performance reviews will be held to ensure satisfactory performance and to identify training and development needs for our staff.
