Police in Ibadan, Oyo State capital, are now investigating assassination of a miner identified as Femi Falegan, and his Senator friend, Chief Bode Ola, who received gun shot wounds along Ade-Oyo/Ring Road from a seven man killer squad.
Ola represented Ekiti Central Senatorial District at the National Assembly between 2003 and 2007.
According to sources, the duo might have been trailed from Ado Ekiti.
A source confided in THISDAY that the deceased had been having a running battle with some people on a disputed landed property, which was yet to be settled before his untimely death, with the source claiming that the late miner was returning from a community leader in connection with the disputed land at Olode Village, along Ibadan/Ife Expressway.
They were shot while in a Toyota Camry Car with registration number AG 636ABC, belonging to Ola.
Eye-witnesses account revealed that four persons were in the car before they stopped at Adeoyo junction to buy food at a popular rice joint near the intersection, where Falegan’s driver and Personal Assistant alighted to buy food for their principals.
On rushing to the scene of the attack, they met Falegan lying in the pool of his own blood, while Senator Ola was writhing in pain and were rushed to UCH. Falegan, however, died before reaching the hospital.
Personal Assistant to Ola, Mr Femi Fadahunsi, confirmed that they were coming from UCH where they went to meet a community head receiving treatment at the hospital, over a disputed mining site at Olode Village, along Ibadan/Ife Expressway.
When contacted yesterday, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) in the state, Mr Ralph Ibeazor, confirmed the incident, saying officials of the State Criminal Investigations Department (SCID) had been asked to take over the matter.
