Ten persons were feared dead when an 18-seater bus collided with a log carrying truck along Ilesa –Osogbo road, while in Ijebu Jesa, Oriade Local Government headquarters, another 18 -seater passenger bus cillided with a commercial motorcyclist, killing him instantly.
The fully loaded bus, traveling to Ilesa, overtook another vehicle at a corner and before it could return to its lane, a truck emerged from Ilesa end.
According to eyes-witnesses, dead and wounded persons, including infants, were taken to Wesley Guild Hospital.
The okada rider, Mr Ezekiel Olowookere, popularly called Baba Esther's female passenger was seriously wounded and the bus, with registration number Kogi AM560LKJ, was traveling to Lokoja from Lagos.
Chairman of motorcycle riders in the council, Mr Abimbola Ajilore among others, alleged that the bus driver was responsible for the accident with his decision to save fuel while descending the hill, causing the steering to get locked which made him to lose control and rammed into the okada.
It was wailing and gnashing of teeth at the residence of Olowookere which was a few metres from the scene.
A sister of the deceased said “someone just died in the family and the news was yet to be broken to our aged mother. So he is also dead? What do we come to do at Ijebu Jesa ? God, we are ruined. He was a devoted Christian and a choir member in his Church. This is too much for us to bear," he said wailing.
The corpse and the wounded woman are now at Wesley Guild Hospital, Ilesa while the bus and motorcycle are at Ijebu Jesa police station.
