Ask yourself what do "Lord of the Rings", "The Catcher in the Rye" and your resume have in common? If your answer is that all three are science fiction productions, then it's time you review your resume. A resume doesn't represent a list of overstatements, neither a combination of your previous job descriptions printed on nice paper, or a list of internet discussions, where you have to write your height, marital status, availability to move your residence, or personal characteristics like: smoker or not. In short a resume is your advertisement and will make your potential employer contact you for an interview if it's well written. The resume has to be as simple as possible

Employers want clear resumes, especially sections like Professional experience and Abilities mandatory for the job. Make sure it stands out that you have the necessary experience and professional knowledge for the job you are applying for, and avoid grandiose language in their description. Abilities and Benefits

Your resume has to stress out not only your abilities and characteristics but also what benefits you can bring to the company. Most of the times, previous performances are good pointers to future achievements, so mention the most important accomplishments you had on the previous jobs, including dates and quantity examples (you raised sales with 100%, you upgraded a process or product). Think for a few minutes at the moments when you went beyond your responsibilities, to resolve some problems, remember professional achievements, because your resume has to reflect value and to convince the employer you are the best for the job.

Truth in advertisement

Even the resume is an advertisement for you; this doesn't have to contain things that are untrue regarding your experience or professional abilities. Many employers take different measures to prevent this: checking references, checking information regarding previous jobs, checking education and checking identity. If you give false information there are big chances you will get caught. Instead of wasting your and employer's precious time, be sincere, act correct and intelligent.

You need some help

If you need help for writing a killer resume don't use checking and correction software. Ask a friend or some relative to help you. You can also ask employers in human resources agencies to check your resume and offer consultancy. Writing a killer resume needs some practice, but once it is ready you can focus on the interviews.
