GTBank (AN ACT OF TRIBALISM)
They say things heard or seen mostly unpleasant things must never remain concealed. I am a living witness & a victim of circumstances. This yr i was called 4 an interview wit GTB after my success in the recent test. I was invited 4 an interview by 4:30pm but was called by d branch mgr 2 come by 5:00pm. The mgr later came around 6:00pm. We were just 4 candidates dat came 4 d interview & i happened 2 be d only Igbo candidate amongst them. I was interviewed by 2 yoruba men (branch mgr & another man). The whole event lasted till 8:00pm. The following day the 3 yoruba candidates were called 4 medicals excluding me. I was sent an e-mail (we regret 2 inform..........). GTB is a bank dat contains about 99% yoruba's. You can see dat dis world is full of wicked people. Only God will save us.

Re: GTBank (AN ACT OF TRIBALISM)
BROS,WELL I QUITE SYMPATHISE WITH YOU OVER THE INCIDENT.BUT LET ME TELL YOU THIS,THAT YOU WERE NOT CALLED FOR THE MEDICAL COULDNT HAVE BEEN AS A RESULT OF BEING AN IGBO GUY.I HAVE MORE THAN ENOUGH GUY IN THAT PLACE THAT ARE IGBO GUYS.SOME OF THEIR GROUP HEADS ARE ALSO FROM THE SOUTH.
ARE YOU ALSO AWARE THAT THE CURRENT CHAIRMAN(Owelle Gilbert P. Chikelu) CON. OF THE BANK IS AN IGBO GUY.ANOTHER TOP SHOT OF THE BANK IN PERSON OF Mrs. Cathy Echeozo(Nigerian): Executive Director IS ALSO FROM THE SOUTHEN PART OF THE COUNTRY.PLEASE GTBANK IS A BANK THAT OTHER BANKS LOOK UP TO AS A ROLE MODEL AND ANY ATTEMPT TO TARNISH ITS EARNED REPUTATION WILL NOT BE TOLERATED FROM ANY QUARTERS.
GOD BLESS US REAL GOOD.

Re: GTBank (AN ACT OF TRIBALISM)
I disagree with you, i am a staff of GTBank{though am a contract staff} staff of GTBank cut across all tribes, you can even find those with disability working with the bank. I know of one of them who is presently an AGM and the other who is an Igbo guy is currently a DM.
What happen in your case does not have anything to do with tribalism. Whatever they do in my bank is on merit, no sentiment . I can assure you, why don't you give it another try and be postive.
One luv.

Re: GTBank (AN ACT OF TRIBALISM)
Mind u guys i just said 99%. Anyway, u guys weren't there 2 witness d whole event.Their international subsidiaries e.g Gambia, Sierra leone, Ghana & Uk are managed by yoruba managers. You can go 2 their website 2 confirm. Check team profile. The few people you just mentioned may be middle belt. You can count them with ur finger tips.

Re: GTBank (AN ACT OF TRIBALISM)

Re: GTBank (AN ACT OF TRIBALISM)
Bros i agree wit u dat 99% of their staffs are yoruba.Even their staffs in umuahia were i stay are all yorubas. For u to have reached dat stage of d interview means u are good.Keep trying n believing God,u will surely succeed.
I'm ur fellow Igbo boy.Takecare.

Re: GTBank (AN ACT OF TRIBALISM)
I like to say i totally disagree with you but i may be wrong to some extent. My guess is, the branch manager was just tribalistic and not the entire GTB.

Re: GTBank (AN ACT OF TRIBALISM)
Jobs will come. It's just a matter of time!

Re: GTBank (AN ACT OF TRIBALISM)

Re: GTBank (AN ACT OF TRIBALISM)
Have you heard of that saying that "You do not say ill of people cos you never can tell who's listening".
Mr Oga, GTB strictly would go for people who are positive minded and are not prejudiced like you just convinced me you are...I wont be surprised if this kind of attitude you just put up is one of the reasons why you were not called for the Job.
I do understand your dire need for a job but dont forget we were all there once. We did not say bad of any company, God with our own attitude got us thus far. At my time I got 4 offers and was confused which to even choose.
I am a staff of GTB, everybody around me in the office are from the east and I wonder how they got into the bank if it goes just as you painted.
My Group Head, AGMs, GM...quite a number of them are from the east. The bank solely work with your preformance on your job and not where you are from.
Mind you...A lot of companies HR and recruitment offices look at such sites like Naija Hot Jobs for prospective recruit.
Keep a good spirit brother and God will give you your own Job....GTB is not the final bus-stop.
I wish you well.

Re: GTBank (AN ACT OF TRIBALISM)
GTB IS A TRIBALLY BAISED BANK QED, THIS I KNOW
-
Re: GTBank (AN ACT OF TRIBALISM)
Brother what u are saying is true, bcos here in the north 95% of their staff and managers are yorubas.
-
Re: GTBank (AN ACT OF TRIBALISM)
My point in this issue is that a bank should employee the services of those it believes would lift its banner higher without any atom of sentiment.

Re: GTBank (AN ACT OF TRIBALISM)
I quite disagree with u, though GTB was established by 2 Yorubas but when it comes to recruitment, I dont think employ based on tribe. When I did my interview,we were 36 in number & the 6 people that were dropped are yorubas. Also presently in my team,2 out 4 of the team member are igbo. That u are not called for medical, it means u cant fit into thier culture. By the way. I dont believe that ur interviewed lasted upto 10 mins. Bro, it is ur character they look out for not ur tribe. Even my team in training School was made of different tribes & we had 8 out of 30 that are yorubas. But if you are talking of gtb what about fidelity, zenith, Bank of d north of blessed memory, lion bank of then, so different banks has their culture. I sympathise with but onething I discovered in life is that we always try to tied our failure to one blame or the other. What u need to do, try & think of what might went wrong, it may be d way u dressed, interaction, ur response & even d way u talked. Please, look at urself and improve.

This is what I simply term SCAPEGOAT THEORY,the society will always look for some1 or something 2 pass their misfortune on, the man who interviewed you may actually be biased which a Igbo man or an Hausa man can also do but that does not apply to GTB in general, its really painful to have gone that far and @ the end of the day nothing to show forth, its like some1's hope being dashed, but I have a mgs of hope 4 U,ur time will surely come though it tarries it will surely come for hope maketh not ashamed,do away with prejudice forgive the man and move on with your life.We shall meet @ the top.

Re: GTBank (AN ACT OF TRIBALISM)

Re: GTBank (AN ACT OF TRIBALISM)
I had a vision dat GTBank would be d bank i would work wit. And my mission was 2 achieve dat goal. I had always hoped 2 work wit a reputable & dynamic bank like GTBank were i would add value & ensure dat GTB is taken 2 d next level. Assuming i was interviewed by sme1 else, i believe dat i would have passed. My comportment, composure, patience, response 2 questions & my dressing was more like an executive director, would have earned me more marks. Could u believe dat d other candidates came 2 tell me how generous d interviewers were in awarding them marks. I mean they were telling me their scores. It was as if everything was staged. The worst thing was that we were asked the same questions. The interviewers couldn't answer my intelligient questions. This is the major reason why we don't find more of other tribes there or does it mean dat yoruba's are more intelligient than us. My advise is dat they should hire brilliant candidates. This world is really a small place, nobody knows 2moro we could meet anywhere. One luv.

Re: GTBank (AN ACT OF TRIBALISM)
Guy i sympathise with u. I know aw it feels to get so close to something without getting in. Would we blame the Yorubas for being their brother's keepers when it comes to the corporate world e.g bank job. One thing i've come to realise is that an average Yoruba man would always protect the interest of his tribesman when it comes to issues like this and more...but we the igbos are always sacred of our brother moving ahead of us look at our politics...i still believe its not yet late for us (igbos) to start the same thing, starting from me and u and all nwanna reading this message
be ur brothers keeper
see u @ the top

Re: GTBank (AN ACT OF TRIBALISM)
I REALLY FEEL SAD THAT YOU GUYS ARE ALL TURNING THING WHOLE ISSUE OF TRIBALISM....IT ALL WASNT SUPPOSED TO GET TO THIS POINT.
I AM YORUBA AND WOULD NOT GIVE PRIORITY ON THE JOB TO SOMEONE WHO IS YORUBA JUST BECOS WE ARE OF THE SAME TRIBE....INTELLECT IS WHAT IS REQUIRED FOR IT.
LEX4REAL.....Learn to move with life....God has his reason's for not giving you the job....there are companies/banks that are even worse than you have painted GTB since you have refused to change your mindset about GTB.
Do kindly note here that your vision might be meant for another and even better company.
You guys should all go ahead with your tribalistic acts and lets see where it would lead us in this country. So because someone says he was not given a job based of claims of tribalism, you all want to kill the average yoruba man....who is all acting tribalistic now? This is a question i am putting right in your faces...Igbo boys. Was any of you there to actually witness what went wrong in the interview room? I still maintain that GTB is not one of such banks.
Lex....for real, I think you should just get ahead with your life.....for every door that closes, there is an open window.
Wishing you all the best in life....Igbo, Hausa or Yoruba. Nigerians we all are.
Stay Blessed.

Re: GTBank (AN ACT OF TRIBALISM)
Brother, God will give You Your own Job, Yoruba or no Yoruba. Trust in God and at the appropriate time You will sing Halleluya. It is true that they treated you badly, but all Yorubas are not the same, there are still some good ones, like the saying goes in every 12 there must be a Judas.
God dey.

Re: GTBank (AN ACT OF TRIBALISM)
I quite disagree with you. I am neither Igbo nor yoruba but the Igbos are the ones dominating the banking industry in the middle class level, ask your brother Soludo, he'll tell. In the South-South where i'm from, all the banking chairs are occupied by Igbos.
I think the reason you where not selected is because of your mind set. so.... work on it now!
-
Re: GTBank (AN ACT OF TRIBALISM)
Well, what that you are trying to pass across cannot be the truth of the matter. You might think that you performed excellently, but to the interviewers, you might be the dullards among those that were there with you. Keep on trying and forget about tribalism or whatever, it has happened to me in UNILEVER in 2004, despite all my efforts during the last stage of the interview, an Igbo woman was to attend to me, but she denied me totally, like wise, in UBA, another Igbo woman did same to me, but i never thought that it was solely based on tribalism. Bros, if you have not fallen once, you can not rise.
Continue the race until you get to the promised land.

Re: GTBank (AN ACT OF TRIBALISM)
there are different reason for which you could be turned down. i wouldnt say it is a lie or not, that it was tribalistic. but take it off your mind God will provide another job. i know of a friend who GTB turned down after second stage of Interview asking who she knew in GTB and when she said nobody she was sent thesame mail like yours. Well GTB is a bank i like very much and I have an account with them. they are very efficient with the internent. just pray hard
-
Re: GTBank (AN ACT OF TRIBALISM)
no doubt, u a really bitter with what happened, every intelligent person would feel same because to your families, friends who kenw u went for the interview would have one thing in their minds-that u did not do ur best.but i tell u, that for u to ve gone that far shows that there is no interview that u can not pass.in every stage of interview,we learn new tactics that we would apply in case anoda job comes,be more aggressive now in ur job search and be4 u knw it anoda opportunity will land ur way.am telling u b4 d quarter of this month.

Re: GTBank (AN ACT OF TRIBALISM)
lex4 real, judging by dis post of yours , i think u are not fit to work in GTB, u are a guy who blame others 4 ur woes, GTbank is a non-tribalistic bank,it is u dat is tribalistic
i was also turned down by GTbank, in d interview we had, out of 4 guys, only 3 igbo guys were picked and d banker who interviewed me was a yoruba man! it was based on performance and not tribe, u lack d skills they wanted, why not ask yourself your mistakes and forge ahead
i am now a first banker since then
-
Re: GTBank (AN ACT OF TRIBALISM)
maybe lex4real should go and become ojukwu, u are a dull guy at d interview, i did an interview one time with first inland an igbo bank, they tur
-
Re: GTBank (AN ACT OF TRIBALISM)
hi, dont let d experience of your interview determine ur outlook of a particular tribe, remember no matter how u feel, GTBank still have an edge over you in that u were not hired. Instead, pray that better doors and opportunities will open for you and at the end u will not remember this incidence.
One thing i know is dis, i u keep on displaying this defensive attitude and victim mentality any where, u will not make progress. so be positive and always look ahead to a brighter future.
GTBank is still a respected brand and will always be as far as Nigerian banking and financial standards are concerned.
-
Re: GTBank (AN ACT OF TRIBALISM)
@lex4real!
It's obvious that you are good at throwing pity parties!
If you had being picked ahead of the other 3 yoruba guys, would you have felt this way?
If GTB really wanted to be TRIBALISTIC, they wouldn't have invited you for the interview in the first place.
The simple fact you have failed to realize is that you goofed badly at the interview that's why you were not hired.
It is your likes that will never make Nigeria a really unified nation. The earlier you begin to face the realities of life rather than wallowing in self pity, the better.
What you don't know is, you'll not get far with this your kind of mentality.
My advice, learn to be a good loser and imbibe the spirit of sportsmanship!

I guess you personally know each staff of all the GTBanks in the north. That people speak yoruba language doesn't make them yorubas.

Re: GTBank (AN ACT OF TRIBALISM)
You have to take heart.Gtbank is whom you know.let me share you my experience too.In 2006 i wrote a GTBank test through ICSLimited Obanikoro,ILupeju. After i passed test we were sent to the branch in broad street, one of the managers asked me who did i know here?i said to him nobody. They called me for more than fouth times for series of interview but after all nothing. just take it like that band erase your mind from it.
