Technical Competencies
Degree qualified – minimum requirement of HND
Around 5-7 years min. experience working in a design consultancy at a supervisory or senior level – some experience of working within a contractor environment is additionally welcome
Experience of working on major projects
Experience of electrical and mechanical design
Mechanical Bias preferred with good electrical knowledge
Experience of local utilities rules, regulations and design guides
Understanding of British and International design standards
Understanding of Mechanical Engineering principles and systems is essential
Good level of computer literacy in MS Office – an understanding of AutoCAD is useful
Excellent communication skills in written and spoken English
Good report writing skills, experience of making presentation to and attending meetings with clients is essential
Ability to manage the workload of a team of MEP engineers and inspectors
Ability to work under pressure and under tight deadlines.

Responsibilities
Staff management.
Report to Project Management
Understand design according to local utilities rules, regulations and design guides and obtain necessary statutory approvals
Coordinate with Architects, Structural Engineers and Mechanical Engineers and any other external design consultant at site
Representing the consultants at meetings with clients and contractors
Understanding and acting upon site related issues, and reporting to Project Manager.

Typical duties of the Resident Engineer will include but are not limited to:
Coordinates with the Project Manager regarding design and documentation issues.
Action all construction contract correspondence with contractor(s), client and construction manager (if applicable).
Carry out inspections for approval of the works.
Review and action material, shop drawing, sample, mock-up etc. submittals.
Issue instructions to contractor for their action to comply with the construction contract time and quality requirements.
Action the Client's instructions to modify the works in consultation with the Head Office if involving change to the design.
Liaise with the Head Office designers and Statutory Authorities to resolve site queries.
Hold progress/coordination meetings to expedite the works.
Issue to the client and Head Office regular project progress reports.
Review and process contractor payments and variation orders.
Review and advise client on contractor claims.
Issue substantial and final completion certificates. Prepare and follow up snag lists.
Review and approve operation and maintenance manuals and as-built drawings.
Carry out administration and human resource procedures for site supervision staff.
