If u observe the way that interview was structured, It was just "you" and "Exxonmobil". No Issue of competition with other interview candidates n all that.
Hate to burst your bubble but you ARE competing with other candidates. Companies have their expectations, yes, but in this situation, the hiring department makes a req to HR based on need. They have a set number that they need. They will simple pick the best candidates that meet up to their respective criteria. With regards to them no hiring for the past 3yrs, ol boy that doesn't mean a thing. Recruitment in the industry was slow based on three factors in order of importance - PIB and unknown future for the the nigerian pet sector, Need for new hires based on new projects, and long overdue retirees.
A lot of people that would have opted to retire prior to their official cutoff age are not doing it. If older folks don't retire, openings will no come up if new projects don't show up. Also, remember that MPN probably has less than 600 full time employees in total so to think they will need 150 is ludacris. When you consider the entire organization in naija i.e mobil oil plus esso + mpn it is probably like 1200 employees or so. Not trying to dampen your hopes but i think a realistic number would be between 10-30 max intakes.

9jah . . 30 engineers over eight disciplines including Graduates and Experienced.. Brother do the maths nw.. which means they dont even need up to 2 persons per discipline. Mind you the PIB gives them more flexibility meaning they are the ones running their own show now rather than the useless Joint ventures with that dead n useless Nnpc. There is no bubbles here, Mobil at that level has more than enough n even more challenging projects for 120 Nigerian Engineers every year. Mind u all their competitors - shell chevron total have recruited more personnel this yr than that 30 you are talking about. Do u think their HR are not following their competitors. If there is work through new projects and they dont employ people, who would do the work for them. Even if their Business model is to outsource - no company outsources its technology (technical manpower) because it is critical to the business. Even that 120 puts the hiring at 5 Experienced hires and 10 grad trainees per discipline. And some people will still go into management too. if people dont retire, how will they compete if they maintain the same workforce for a long period. No one really knows what they are doing but as far as they are increasing investments in Nigeria then everybody would get a piece of the pie one way or the other.

Re: 2012 ExxonMobil Engineering Recruitment (Trainee and Experienced Professionals)

Guy I can guarantee you that there is no way on earth mpn will recruit 120. Like I said earlier 10 -30 is more realistic. Fyi, their hiring process does not have 2 b discipline specific. Pet, chemical, and mechanical engrs cn b trained to become drilling engineers or petroleum engineers. There is nothing that says they have to hire every discipline. Let me also give you some industry info....a lot of the engineering for mpn is done right from the houston office. From planning wells, through cssing design to production. Most of the lagos guys do a lot of project management so dont expect that they necessarily need a lot of new hires. Hope this better explains it

Re: 2012 ExxonMobil Engineering Recruitment (Trainee and Experienced Professionals)
Hmmmmm!!!!!!!????? Na wa oh
I think i'll go with that 15. really looks unrealistic (to me ooo) that mpn will hire 120 persons(engineers) in one year and i dont know of any other mpn recruitment campaign for non engineers. remember they also have an apprenticeship program which they recruiting people for presently. this program has graduands from previous years who r yet to get offers. lets watch and see sha..
-
Re: 2012 ExxonMobil Engineering Recruitment (Trainee and Experienced Professionals)
Initially heard 20 slots, now that they are saying 15, i think that should be more realistic. mind you guys, we are yet to see an ioc employing 120 candidates in just one recruitment, it has never happened!

You've just killed some people's spirit by saying they wont hire from their discipline. Lagos is not the only operations they are hiring for naah. Anyway its well brother - we dont know what they are doing so are just assuming. with or without Exxon God will give us our daily bread. it is well
