Position: Cashier

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Receives and disburses cash in the establishments and carries out bank lodgement; uses electronic scanners, cash registers, or related equipment in capturing both cash and cheques transactions. Other duties of the cashier includes

Balancing Cash Drawer
Cashiers have to take payments and give change to customers. They have to manage their cash drawers and ensure that it is always balanced.

Processing Debit/Credit Transactions

Efficient Customer Service

Record keeping

Compute and record totals of transactions and keep appropriate cash registers and other necessary records for all categories of transactions.
Tabulate cash payment and disbursement and keeping appropriate documents and tellers using calculators, cash registers, or optical scanners where necessary to communicate received payment or disbursed cash.
Issue receipts, refunds, credits, or change due to customers.
Compile and maintain non-monetary reports and records.
Keep periodic balance sheets of amounts and numbers of transactions.

Office management

Ensures the safety and security of his/her of office

Maintain clean and orderly office and counters.

Monitor her drawers and ensures that they have adequate cash available.


Supervisory Responsibilities:

Supervises none, but could be requested to train new cashiers (if experience)

Skills and Competencies:

Ability to process information/merchandise through register system

Ability to communicate with associates and customers

Ability to read, count, and write to accurately complete all documentation

Ability to operate all equipment necessary to perform the job


Requirements:
Physical ability to stand for extended periods and to count large amount of money.

Ability to work varied hours/days, including nights, weekends, and holidays, as needed

Education and/or Experience
OND/HND /BSC degree in Accounting or Finance from a recognized Polytechnics or University, plus a minimum of three (3) years experience.

Computer Skills
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Excel, Word and Accounting Software.
