GENERAL 1. The Nigerian army invites applications from able bodied and qualified Nigerians for the grant of Short Service Combatant Commission (SSC) as officers into The Nigerian Army. The Short Service Combatant Commission offers an excellent opportunity to young Nigerians who want to have an experience in the Nigerian Army without necessarily having to spend their entire career life in it. The SSC is open to civilians or serving military personnel who must be male by gender. ENTRY REQUIREMENT 2. All civilians or serving personnel must satisfy the following conditions. a. Be a Nigerian as defined in the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. b. Be a male between the age of 21 and 29 years. c. Possess at least a BA, BSc or HND in the science or humanities from any recognized institution. d. Measure at least 1.66m in height. e. Be medically and physically fit. f. Possess NYSC discharge certificate or a valid exemption as the case may be. g. Possess valid birth certificate endorsed by the National Population Commission, Hospital or local government council of birth or valid age declaration. h. Possess a valid certificate of state of origin. i. Must not have been convicted by any competent court of law on any criminal grounds. j. Recommended by at least one recognizable referee who must attest to the applicant’s character and integrity. Serving military personnel must be recommended by their commanding officers. CONDITIONS OF SERVICE 3. Short Service Commission will granted for 10 years. Six years will be on active list renewable thereafter for a period up to 3 years. No extension is admitted after the ninth year of commission except on conversion to regular combatant where applicable. a. Cadet Officers who successfully complete the military training shall be granted the rank of Second Lieutenant. b. Conversion to regular commission is not automatic. It is based on availability of vacancy and other criteria that are or will be in force. c. All graduating cadet officers must sign an acceptance of the terms and conditions governing the Short Service Combatant Commission before they are granted commission into the Nigerian Army. d. The reckonable period of service will be based on the date of commencement of cadet training of both civilian and military personnel entrants. CLOSING DATE 4. Application closes 15th March 2009.

DSSC Requirements
GENERAL 1. Applications are invited from suitably qualified Nigerians for the appointment into the Nigerian Army (NA) as Direct Short Service Commission officers for the following NA specialties: a. MEDICAL: (1) Medical Specialist: Applicants must possess MBBS degree or its equivalent and Post Graduate/Special qualifications. Preference would be given to Obstetricians and Gynecologists, ENT Surgeons, Radiologist, Pediatricians, General Surgeons, Psychiatrists and Anesthetists. (2) Medical Doctors: Candidates must possess degree registable with Nigerian Medical and Dental Councils e.g MMS, CHB. (3) Dental Surgeon: Candidate must possess degree registable with Nigerian Medical and Dental Council. (4) Pharmacy: Applicants must possess at least BSc Pharm and must be a member of the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria. (5) Physiotherapy: Applicants must possess BSc Physiotherapy and must be a member of the Institute of the Nigeria Society of Physiotherapy. (6) Medical Records: Applicants must possess BSc Medical Records/Biostatistics or HND Medical Records/Biostatistics. (7) Medical Laboratory Scientists: Applicants must possess BSc, AIMLS or its equivalent qualification, Medical Lab Science and must be registered with the Institute of Medical Laboratory Science and Technology of Nigeria. ( Radiographers: Applicants must possess BSc in Radiography and must be registered with the appropriate professional body. (9) Public Health Technologists: Applicants must possess HND/ BSc in Public Health, and be members of West African health Examination Board (WAHEB). (10) Clinical Psychologist: Applicants must possess MSc in Psychology and be registered Clinical Psychologist. (11) Dieticians: Applicants must possess BSc Dietetics. (12) Nursing: Applicants must be registered Nurses. Applicants with BSc Nursing or other specialization will be added advantage. (13) Bio-Medical Engineers: Applicants must possess BSc or HND in Bio-Medical Engineering and must be registered with the appropriate professional body. b. CHAPLAIN/IMAM: Christian applicants must be ordained Priests with BA in Theology while Muslim applicants must possess BA in Arabic and Islamic Studies. Each applicant will be required to produce testimony of excellent character by a reputable religious organization in Nigeria. c. EDUCATION: Applicants must possess BA, BSc or B. Ed degree (Science and Humanities) in any of the following: Mathematics, English, geography, Home Economics, Guidance and Counseling, Chemistry, Physics, Hausa, Igbo, Yoruba Languages, Christian Religious Knowledge and Islamic Religious Knowledge, Fine Arts, Library Science; BSc or HND in Accounts and Intro-Tech. Computer Literacy will be an added advantage. d. LEGAL SERVICE/MILITARY POLICE: Applicants must possess LLB, BL, LLM or BSc degree in Criminology. e. MUSIC: Applicants must possess HND, BSc or equivalent in Music with L.R.A.M and A.R.C.M. f. ENGINEERING/ARMAMENT: Applicants must possess HND, BSc or MSc degree in any of the following areas: Mechanical, Chemical, Electrical, Aeronautical Engineering, Electronics Communications, Avionics or equivalent qualifications registrable with council of Registered Engineers of Nigeria (COREN). g. WORKS; Applicants must possess HND, BSc or MSc degree in Civil/Structural Engineering or Quantity/Estate/Land Surveying, Building Tech/Engineering and must be registered with appropriate professional bodies. h. CATERING SERVICES: Applicants must possess HND, BSc or equivalent in catering. A good working experience will be added advantage. i. SUPPLY: Applicants must possess HND, BSc or MSc degree in Economics or Purchasing and Supply, Membership of Nigerian Institute of Purchasing and Supply will be added advantage. j. FINANCE/ACCOUNTING: Applicants must possess HND, BSc or MSc degree in Accounting, Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Banking and Finance or Insurance. Membership of the relevant professional body will be an added advantage. k. ADMINISTARION: Applicants must possess HND, BA, BSc MA or MSc in Administration or Management. l. PUBLIC RELATIONS/INFORMATION; Applicants must have HND, BSc or MSc degree in Mass Communication, Public Relations, Journalism, Social Science or BA/HND in Graphic Arts, Membership of the relevant professional bodies would be added advantage. m. SPORTS: Applicants must possess HND, BSc or Physical Health Education Proficiency. n. METEOROLOGY: Applicants must possess HND, BSc or MSc in Meteorology. ENTRY REQUIREMENT 2. Applicant must fulfill the following: a. Be a Nigerian as defined in the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. b. Be between the ages of 22 to 30 years for both serving personnel and civilians.(22 to 35 for chaplain and iman) c. Be medically and physically fit. d. Measure not less than 1.66m (for male) and 1.63m (for female) in height. e. Must not have been convicted by any court of law on any criminal grounds. f. Possess a minimum of first degree from a recognized University or HND from a recognized Polytechnic. g. Applicants less serving soldiers must have completed the NYSC Scheme or provide proof of exemption as the case may be. h. Graduates with registrable professional qualifications must be duly registered by relevant bodies recognized by Nigerian Laws at the commencement of cadet training. i. Possess valid birth certificate endorsed by the National Population Commission, Hospital or local government council of birth or valid age declaration. j. Possess a valid certificate of state of origin. k. Recommended by at least one recognizable referee who must attest to the applicant’s character and integrity. Serving military personnel must be recommended by their commanding officers. CONDITIONS OF SERVICE 3. Direct Short Service Commission will be granted for 10 years, for an initial probation period of 3 years service, renewable yearly for another period of 7 years. Direct Regular Commission may be granted on conversion after 3 years as commissioned officer. a. All selected candidates will be required to undergo an initial military training at the Infantry Corps Centre and school, Jaji, Kaduna. b. Cadet officer who successfully complete the military training shall be granted the rank of Lieutenant with no advantage of seniority except fully registered medical Doctors, Chartered Accountants, Architect, Lawyers and holders of doctorate degree in fields relevant to individual service who will be commissioned in the same rank but with 3 months seniority
