TRANSITION COMMITTEE MEMO FIRS INTERNAL RECRUITEMENT EXERCISE
Sequel to the release of shortlisted candidates for internal recruitment execise, the Transition Committee has received several complaints from some applicants who were not shortlisted. These complaints have been investigated and some of the findings are highlighted below:-
Some staff did not indicate their IR numbers when submitting their on line CVs and thus they were not included in the FIRS shorlist. However, where such candidates have scored 60% and above in the appraisal process, they will be included in the external recruitment exercise.
Some applicants did not itemise their years of experience correctly and in a chronological sequence. This resulted in the computer program not being able to recognise the applicant’s full years of experience.
Some applicants lost marks in the appraisal score because they did not indicate the grades obtained in the educational qualifications listed.
Some applicants indicated invalid IR numbers.
Pool/Seconded/Contract staff were not included in the shortlist.
A Corp member fraudulently applied using an FIRS IR number and rank.
Some Staff asked others to assist them in keying in their information on-line and such data was keyed in wrongly
Some Staff did not fully conclude the on-line process.
Some Officers did not key in all required data to assist their case
Somebody who is an Officer Admin applied for the position of Officer Tax thinking that he applied for the position of Manager II, Tax.
Somebody who went to Law School but did not indicate his first Degree in Law (LL.B). Thus he did not get any score for the first degree in law.
Some people who obtain HND in the Polytechnic indicated first class instead of distinction as class of degree. The computer did not score such people on first degree /HND obtained.
This list is not exhaustive, but based on samples carried out thus far.
Our Response
It is important to note that the scoring process did not have any human intervention hence the result is based on what the applicants keyed into the system. Accordingly, the first phase of the qualification process is to have concluded the on-line application successfully.
Having reviewed the process used by Deloitte to rank the applicants, the Transition Committee was satisfied that the process used was fair to all participants.
However, any FIRS Staff who scored above 60% in the appraisal process and who was not shortlisted on account of not indicating the correct IR number, will be included in the external recruitment exercise.
Persons who applied more than once were appraised on the basis of the last application and all ealier applications were disqualified.
If subsequently we find that the information provided on-line are wrong, such applications would be disqualified.
