My first task with my former employer was to install and configure local and network printers. Managing Printers is one of the toughest challenges in a large enterprise environment. Windows Server 2008 offers sophisticated tools to improve manageability and to detect problems quickly.

Installing the Print Services Server Role
In real sense, Server 2008 can share printers without adding any server roles, but, adding the Print Services role adds the Print Management snap-in, Print Server, LDP Service Internet Printing.

Installing Printers and Sharing Printers
To allow printers to be physically accessible to user while keeping print servers secured, most modern printers are connected to the network.
Sharing Printers and Configuring Printer Permission
It is essential we share our printer. So, we’ll do this using Print Management Snap-in.
This is similar to NTFS File Permission. By default, everyone can print to a printer. Users can manage their own documents in the print queue but not others documents.

The following permissions can be configured;
? Print: Users can print
? Manage Printers: Users can change printer configuration settings
? Manage Documents; Users can remove documents hat have been submitted to the printer
