Catfish as we all know is a popular kind of fresh water fish and is common mostly common in Africa. It called the rugged fish because it has the ability to survive in harsh conditions.
Catfish farming or Aquaculture is a very lucrative business and has been seen as the fastest growing Agricultural business in Africa. It is easy, does not smell and does not generate any form of noise and also, it requires less stress. We can tell you how. The stages involved in Catfish production and training is summarized as follows.
Hatching: This is done by cross breeding the male and the female brood stock artificially to produce fries.
Fries: At fry stage, the fishes are so minute and may take up to 3 days before becoming visible to the eyes and at this stage, they feed on powdery feeds.
Fingerlings stage: At this stage, the fishes are completely visible to the eye but look more like tiny tadpoles. This stage could take up to three weeks and their body parts gradually resemble that of a tiny fish. They will feed on pellets of about 0.3mm to 0.8mm.
Juveniles: The fishes have fully developed the full features of a fish and looks like a tiny fish. Their pellets could be up to 3mm.
Adult Stage: This comprises of the entire period of growing up to maturity stage. Fishes can eat up to 10mm feed.
The total period could take up to 4 month for the fishes to mature and you will have your table size fish ready for consumption or sale. Fishes Can also be dried, frozen or eaten as fresh Catfish.
