The SAT is a requirement for nearly all students who seek an undergraduate degree in the US. Some schools also request SAT II Subject Test scores. SAT II tests are offered in specific subjects such as chemistry, English literature and US history.

GRE or GMAT scores are required by many US graduate schools. The GMAT is for graduate students who plan to attend a business school, and the GRE is for students who want to earn most other types of master’s degrees such as medicine and law.

BE PREPARED FOR THE NEW GMAT FORMAT

Effective in June 2012, GMAT will add an integrated reasoning section that focuses heavily on data interpretation. Another important factor will be the GMAT’s math questions around data sufficiency. ‘‘Test takes don’t have to actually solve the question; instead they have to determine if there is sufficient data to solve the question and how to break it down into its logical elements’’ These questions evaluate how an applicant thinks. ‘‘CEOs have to determine which problems need to be solved. This is what business schools are looking for.’’ It is critically important to look through questions and see what’s being asked of you.’’
