Read this before you apply for any school in US.
Hello forumites,
My name is kayode. I reside in Lagos Nigeria and I specialize in oversea admission. The major reason I put up this article is because majority of people that call me don’t understand some procedures on how to secure an admission in US schools. So here are some questions am frequently asked.
1. Question: Can I get a free tuition school in USA?
Well I won’t denied the fact that there are colleges and seminary schools in US which offer free tuition. But the truth is that most of them will give you scholarship based on your merit. They ask you to take SAT exam and if you can have an excellent score, you will be given a full scholarship.
2. Is there schools that offer payment after arrival?
Yes. There are colleges and universities that will tell you to pay for application and tuition fee on arrival this is because they realize that most international students were not given a visa so as a result the school will have to refund some percentage of the tuition fee that you have paid.
3. Is there a way I can get someone to stand as my sponsor?
To be candid, I don’t know of anyone who is not your relative that can stand to pay your bills while in US. You need to figure that one out yourself.
4. Can I apply to US schools without a sponsor?
Let me explain how it works, most schools in US usually require you to send a financial bank statement of your sponsor. This is what I do for people. I can get you a genuine bank statement to back up your application. If you have seen a 1-20 (US admission letter) before you will discover that the name on your bank statement you send to school will be on the 1-20. In other word, you will need another copy of the statement while going for an interview at the embassy. I can get you a real one on any range depending on your school cost.
If you have any question on how to get a 1-20 or bank statement. Call me on 08085734900.
Note: UK student visa is quite different. If you need any assistance on statement of account for your UK student visa. Feel free to call me. Thanks

Re: Read this before you apply for any school in US.
@ Nwankwochuks
Simply go to www.edupass.org. They have all the information u need about applying for admission, visas and the rest. But as a basic, u'll need ur transcript, credentials and other documents need by the school you are applying to. If u are going for undergraduate course, take the SAT and TOEFL and any other test reqd by the school. For a graduate student, u'll need to take the GRE and TOEFL. You can register for any of these exam @ First Logic in Ikeja or GIEVA in Marina.
Browse the schools requirement and get a feel of what you need for your application to be complete. You can also call the school to find out more remember international call with GLO is NGN10 per minute. Take advantage of this too.

Re: Read this before you apply for any school in US.
@lsk well it is true but you see it depend o how you are able to convince the consular. I have seen many people like that without any international student getting visa. One of my client said when the consular(a Lady) ask for his GMAT. He told her that his school do not require it and that they will give her a English test once he resume school. He got the visa.
-
Re: Read this before you apply for any school in US.
it all depends on how u present urself to the consular but it is still advisable to do GMAT or GRE even if ur school does not require it. sometimes, ur GRE score may help u get a scholarship too.

Re: Read this before you apply for any school in US.
@ kunle Reality of Financial Aid for International Students
The reality is that there are limited places at the top schools for international students. The financial aid pool for international students is also limited and there is fierce competition for a slice of the pie. Unfortunately, the subprime financial crisis led to a drastic fall in the endowment of many American universities and colleges, which further led to cuts in funding, financial aid for American students, and invariably financial aid for international students. Some notable casualties are Williams College that just announced its abolishment of its need-blind practice, and Olin College that cut its full tuition scholarships for incoming students to half scholarships. There are yet more U.S. colleges that cut their budget for financial aid and merit scholarships for international students.
However,
For lower-income, high-achieving international students who aspire to an overseas education but require financial aid, the United States remains THE BEST place to do so in the world.
Keeping in mind the reality of competitiveness for limited funds in the U.S. and the smaller pool of financial aid for international students post-financial crisis, I have several recommendations for U.S. universities and colleges. These recommendations are based on historical data, testimonials from international students, and official college information.
First, financial aid for international students can be classified into two categories – Need-based and Merit-based aid. Roughly, need-based aid is awarded based inversely proportional to your family income. Merit-based aid is awarded based on your merit (academic or otherwise) and does not depend on family income. Of your financial need (the difference between the cost of study and your ability to pay), colleges that award need-based aid can cover up to your full demonstrated need, whilst others leave a gap that you must cover with loans or borrow from relatives. Most colleges are need-sensitive, which means your financial need affects your admission – i.e. more financial need results in lesser likelihood of being admitted.
A) Need-based Financial Aid
Need-blind colleges do not consider your financial situation when deciding admission. There are only six schools in the U.S. that are need-blind and meet full-need of international students:
1) Amherst College
2) Dartmouth College
3) Harvard University
4) Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT)
5) Princeton University
6) Yale University
I have helped some of my clients to get to some of these best universities in US.
Need-sensitive schools that are generous in awarding financial aid to international students are (in no particular order):
1) Williams College. Williams College used to be need-blind for the last admissions cycle but nonetheless still awards generous financial aid to the very best international applicant.
2) Middlebury College
3) Swarthmore College
4) Vassar College
5) Vanderbilt University
B) Merit-based Financial Aid
Schools that offer merit-based scholarships (up to full tuition) to international students are (in no particular order):
1) Wesleyan University
2) University of Richmond. Full tuition scholarships to up to 12 Science Scholars, 20 Boatwright Scholars, 6 Artist Scholars, 7 Oldham Scholars (this includes room and board)
3) University of Southern California (USC) - 100 full tuition scholarships and more than 200 half tuition scholarships
4) University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (UNC) - 70 Johnston Scholarships for entering freshmen
5) Washington and Lee University (W&L) - Johnson Scholarships
C) Tuition-Free Colleges
Schools that offer the equivalent of tuition-free scholarships to every incoming student (including international students)
1) Berea College. Preference for students from low-income families.
2) The Cooper Union. Requires a U.S. mailing address to apply.
Other U.S. universities to consider; your mileage may vary (in no particular order):
1) Reed College
2) Skidmore College
3) Colby College
4) Colgate University
5) Carleton College
6) Bates College
7) Lafayette College
8) Bowdoin College
9) Kenyon College
10) Wellesley College (for women)
11) Bryn Mawr College (for women)
12) Mount Holyoke College (for women)
13) Smith College (for women)
14) Deep Springs College (for men) – tuition-free college
There are still many U.S. schools out there that award partial and half tuition scholarships; in absolute terms, these schools may even be more generous to international students. However, upper-middle income international students rarely need to go out of their way to find such financial aid options - some of the schools on their shortlist are likely to offer some measure of partial funding and they should have more financial flexibility than low-income students. Hence, I did not include the great number of U.S. schools that offer partial financial aid to international students. You can do more research on US schools with www.peterson.com .
I have been working hard since morning so I need some rest but I will surly give some more information on How to apply to US schools tomorrow.

Re: Read this before you apply for any school in US.
For those who will be going for an interview at the American Embassy. I have some tips on questions the consular asked nigerian. Note that these questions are based on my experience with clients that i have worked for.
SOME LIKLY INTERVIEW QUESTIONS AND THEIR RIGHT ANSWERS
What is your name?
Q: What are you going to do in the United States or what is your purpose of wanting to travel to the United States
A: I want to go to the United States for studies.
What are you going to study in the US?
A: Tell him/her your major of study
Which school are you going to study at?
A: Tell him/her your school name. Further questions might be on the address of the school.
How did you get to know about the school of your choice?
A: I got it through an online research. Please, never tell the officer you got it through your relatives. They will assume your relative want to use it to bring you to the US. Furthermore, you can say, after getting the school, you then told you uncle about it and he accepted to pay the application fee and get the necessary information for you and also accepted to be your sponsor.
How long are you staying in the US?
A: if your course is 2years, tell them 24months and if its 3years, tell them its 36months
Why did you choose this school?
A: This is the school am admitted
Did you apply to only this school or why did you applied to only this school?
A: No, I didn’t apply to only this school; I applied to 3 schools altogether. You might be asked to mention the rest. Just prepare to forge the name of any other existing school in the state where you are going.
How many gave you admission?
A: Only this school. If you tell them its 2 schools they will demand the other admission / acceptance letter.
Why did you choose you course of study or why did you decide to study this course?
A: The prospect for my major (mention your course) is extremely high in Nigeria and there is lack of professionalism in the industry.
When did you graduate your school: either secondary or first degree?
A: tell him/her the year and date.
Since then up till now, what have you being doing?
A: Never tell them you have being doing something that is not relevant to your education. If you can’t get anything to cover the gap interval, go forge a computer diploma/certificate with the ID card that you have being undergoing a computer programme while you are processing you admission to the States since computer is relevant to all field. Make sure to laminate the diploma and ID card in order not to make it look too new. Just proof that you have being doing something relevant to your course or education. They might also ask what course you learned at the computer studies…..Microsoft word, MS excel, Ms Access, Ms PowerPoint, CorelDraw, Desktop publishing, PageMaker and typing certified.
What will you do after your studies in the US or what will you do with you degree after studies in the US?
This is the most technical aspect of your interview that makes them determine whether you wish to run to the US or you will come back to Nigeria.
Answer: I will come back to my country and introduce the modern technologies of my profession into the industry in order to contribute to the industrial development of my country.
Your sponsor and the bank statement. Who are you sponsors? He is my uncle/father/stepfather/aunty. It must have a very close relation for the person to have accepted to sponsor your education. You sponsor can also give you other relevant vital documents that will support you such as landed properties, company registration, shares investment or business investment and importantly, Tax clearance. However, if all of this is not available, just go with the bank statement of you sponsor.
What does he/she do for a living? Tell the lucrative profession or business.
Your personal bank statement?
A: You must show them and the bank ID card because its part of your ties to your country that you will come back. Even though you don’t have cash in the account, just print that statement of account that looks like payroll showing your bank transaction from the date the account was opened till the date of your interview. It is better that way.
Your SEVIS fee, did you pay your SEVIS fee?
A: Yes. You must have paid and gotten the receipt before you interview date otherwise the security will not even allow you into the embassy. Give them the receipt and they can confirm that online and track it.
IF YOU CAN GET ALL QUESTIONS CORRECTLY TO THE POINT THAT YOU ARE BEING ASKED THE SEVIS FEE. BE REST ASSURED THAT YOU ARE GETTING THE VISA BECAUSE, SEVIS FEE IS THE LAST THEY USUALLY ASK AND THEY ASK THOSE THEY ARE READY TO ISSUE VISA TO. ALTHOUGH THEY KNOW IF YOU PAY THE FEE OR NOT.
