This class centers on restoring deleted Active Directory objects, e.g Groups, Users or OUs. When this happen, you’ll need reboot the server and restore from backup.
You can designate a DC to reboot into safe mode by running this command at the prompt;
C:\Windows\System32>bcdedit /set safeboot disrepair
C:\Windows\System32>shutdown /r

It’s not compulsory to run the bcdedit command, but, what it implies is this, once the server is through with Power On Self Test (POST), you have to press the F8 to get to select your boot menu. The bcdedit just gives a guarantee that the server will boot into the safe mode. Whenever an object is deleted, there is an original version number, the truth is this, deleted object are not actually deleted, instead they are moved into a container known as Deleted Object Container, and once the deleted object get there, their version number is increased, say, 2. This DC1 will replicate that information to other DC2, and the y will put the deleted object with the increment version number into their own Delete Object Container.

Now, if I use the Active Directory restore mode to restore the deleted object, on DC1 to its original location, it will assign its previous version number before it was deleted, which is1, this will be replicated to DC2, but since DC2 has a knowledge of increment version number 0f 2. Since DC 1 is Authoritative over DC2, it will overwrite the increment version number of 2, with the version 1. Thus the restored object is replicated to DC2.In case you have multiple backups and you are not sure the backup you need to perform your restore, use wbadmin get version, to see the version Id. For example, 12/15/2011-01:45 identifier. C:\>wbadmin get version
The Non-Authoritative restore will not increase the version increment by 100,000.

To perform Authoritative Restore, use the ntdsutil utility.
