The PTDF format for the last few years has been in three parts.

The first part has objective questions that deal with General Knowledge - Current affairs and a little math.

The next two parts have subdivisions and you are expected to answer questions on the MSc. course you are applied for. So if you applied for Oil and Gas Engineering you will have sets of questions to answer on Oil and Gas.

The second part tests your written communication skills. You would be required to write an essay on a topic that is technical (related to the field you have applied for). You are not being tested here on your choose one from.
technical knowledge (though it won't be a bad idea to have an idea of what you are writing about) but rather on how you can communicate concepts effectively. You are usually given about three questions to answer one.

The last part is purely technical and you would be instructed to answer questions based on the MSc. course you applied for. There could be three or more questions here.
