How to Retire and Become a Manager

Every year thousands of people retire, some as a result of age and some as a result of length of service. Work, no matter how much smile or effort or days invested into it, is a necessary stress and no one like the word stress. It is an evil but a necessary one for most people. It is a way of doing things that bosses, customers or others count on. And so after 35 years in service or at age 60, it becomes mandatory that you must have to go. Some people are glad to go, get certain percentage of what they were getting paid by going to work daily and getting on with the necessary stress.

Initially, most people are glad to be away from the necessary evil and relish their new found freedom. However, some people do not relish this part of their freedom, their retired life. In fact, many of them feel insecure, guilty and selfish when they do not have to get up and go to work and find that their aches and pains and previous habits were very tolerable and even acceptable.

This new phase of life, if not handled properly could lead to an early grave. This article focuses on a way to do what you have always wanted to do and not go back to your previous employer in order to feel valued.

The essence of this article is to focus on a part time self-employment. However, you must exercise caution in investing on self-employment “Business of your own”. There are two ways to easily and gently get into it; First, partnering with some one who already has a vision and who has experience and who needs more money to expand his business. As a retiree you should not get involved in this business more than on part-time basis. While you might like the idea of switching from part-time involvement to full-time involvement, it is essential that you move with caution otherwise you might feel cheated in the long run. Retirement means getting money and being in control of most of your time.

The second choice is to look at business ideas that interest you. If you find any of the ideas that seems remotely desirable, go to the library and start researching them. Alternatively find someone who has been in the same business and use him as your mentor. Write an executive summary of your desired ideas. Focus on only those things that excite you. If you discovered that you cannot stand on your own, revert to the first choice and find someone who need your money for expansion and have you as a partner. But never give up more than 25 percent of your money. If, however, you are excited about starting up a business that is timeless and you have experience in this field, see if you can offer this service without coming out of your pocket.

As you plan this new business where you will invest only 25 percent of your money and 50 percent of your time, you will begin to feel both excitement, fear and fun. Create time to go to seminars, workshops and conferences where these types of businesses are discussed. Never give anyone more than 35 percent of your business for working for your or investing with you.

Remember this is your business, never feel you must go to work. Any time going becomes a stress, your purpose for being self-employed is defeated. If the business is expanding, find people who will do it.
