Fundraising / Development Manager

A reputable NGO is looking for a highly motivated and resourceful individual with commitment to fundraising, both locally and internationally. The successful candidate will seek to ensure the consolidation and increase of funds from existing sources, to identify new sources of funding and new approaches to fundraising. The desired person should have at least 3 years relevant experience. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in ensuring coordinated, logical and strategic approach to the fundraising activities of Freedom Foundation.
Applicants will need to demonstrate strong inter-personal skills and self-motivation for this role.

Qualification

Minimum qualification of B.Sc in Arts or social sciences discipline or any other related degree, Masters Degree qualification will be an added advantage.

Competencies

? Develop and coordinate a fund-raising strategy to meet the funding requirements of Freedom Foundation’s strategic plan in collaboration with key stakeholders.
? Grant-writing
? Lead work to implement a funding strategy and keep the key stakeholders informed of funding progress.
? Analyse donor policies and mechanisms to ensure an effective and targeted approach to funding efforts.
? Work with the programmes to develop appropriate fundraising strategies and manage donor relations.
? Monitor and respond to developments in funding practice and ensure that funding efforts are effectively prioritised
? Prepare core fundraising documentation to address donor policies and procedures
? Advise programme staff on drafting of programme proposals and applications
? Review and finalise funding proposals for submission to funders, on the basis of activities elaborated with programme staff
? Prioritise fundraising efforts and co-ordinate submission of all applications
? Monitor and review donor reports
? Build on existing working relationships to maximise income from current donor base
? Expand current fundraising base by identifying new sources of funding support and building appropriate relationships – including institutional and governmental donors, charitable trusts, foundations, corporate donors and individuals.
? Exploring possibilities for income-generation through new sources such as consultancy work or bidding for work via tender or consortia.
? Maintain and develop information systems that will provide a reliable supply of fundraising information for management and programme staff, using database and other software as appropriate
? Act as focal point for enquiries regarding funding opportunities
? Convene meetings and prepare fundraising missions
? Research and disseminate developments in funding practice
? Responsibility for the coordination of the volunteer database and the meaningful engagement of volunteers.

Experience
? At least 5 years proven successful experience of managing a broad range of fundraising programmes with relevant management experience including experience of major institutional donors (International non-profit sector experience would be an added advantage)
? A very clear and demonstrable understanding of national and international fundraising environment
? Proposal and project development process from consultation and conceptualisation to finalisation and negotiation
? Conveying complex political and social concepts and issues in written and verbal form to a variety of audience(s)
? Experience in designing and maintaining monitoring and evaluations mechanisms
? Use of management tools such as logical frameworks
? Experience working in a developing country or country in transition an advantage
? Knowledgeable in preparing and/or managing budgets

? Excellent written and oral communication skills
? Good presentation skills, including experience of public speaking
? High standard of IT competence for all usual office applications and PowerPoint
? Strong planning and time management skills
? High level of numeracy

Remuneration is competitive and according to industrial standard.
