    JAMB to introduce e-examination

THE Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) will introduce e-examination in fulfillment of its pledge to ensure release of results one or two hours after the conduct of national examinations.

Registrar and Chief Executive of the board, Professor Dibu Ojerinde, who disclosed this at an interactive session with journalists sponsored by Iweb Global Solutions to mark the 30th anniversary of the examination body, said arrangements were on to ensure that this takes effect as soon as possible.

The last University Matriculation Examination (UME) results were released within 10 days and the Monotechnics, Polytechnics and Colleges of Education (MPCE) examination results in six days.

But Ojerinde said that was not enough and that the body would not rest on its oars. “The next level should be where we should be able to release results in less than two days. Meanwhile, we are working on e-examination and if we do it well, we can even release results one or two hours after examinations,” he said.

He said this might not be feasible in the next one or two years because of logistics, challenges of infrastructure and low level of computer literacy, but the body was working to ensure that even people from the local areas had the knowledge of use of computer to be able to sit for examinations online.

That's a good development. But i would urge JAMB not to implement that in a rush .They should do a thorough plannning before implementation.

However, I believe some parts of the country termed the educationally disadvantaged areas will kick against it.

E-examination shouldn't be the priority of JAMB right now. Making the examination credible with integrity should be their main focus. It is a slap on thier face now that universities and polytechnics admit students basically on their post-JAMB score. Which implies that JAMB score is just a rubber stamp!

However, let's keep our fingers crossed for now and see what they can actually come up with.
