    CAN U BELIEVE IT?

For his immeasurable contributions to the liberation of Southern African countries, and his peace initiatives throughout the continent, American and foremost diplomat, Mr. Andrew Young has declared that former President Olusegun Obasanjo deserved to be honoured with the prestigious Nobel prize award.
Young, a former United States Permanent Representative to the United Nations, made the statement, while delivering the maiden convocation lecture of the Bell University, Ota, Ogun State, on Friday night. He described the former President as an international figure whose efforts in the collapse of apartheid could not be overemphasised.

Young, in his lecture, “What is wrong with Nigeria?” captured the contributions of Obasanjo to the liberation of Southern African countries, and his peace initiatives throughout the continent and acknowledged also, “his effort in the collapse of apartheid.”

“He was not given the Nobel prize, not because he did not work for it, but because of those other reasons connected. Apartheid did not end by the firing of gun, but it was the economic power of Nigeria that ends apartheid in South Africa,” Young said, pointing to Obasanjo as instrumental to it.

The international diplomat also recollected how Obasanjo got former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher to back down on some of her decisions leading to several talks which ended apartheid, expressing regret that “Nigerians did not appreciate contributions of Nigeria,” which he described as legendary and exemplary.

Shedding more insight on the lecture, Young, a former US congressman, said that “Nigerians don’t like Nigerians, you don’t like yourselves. You don’t know your genius and you don’t know how to use them for your good.” He then urged the people of Nigeria to understand their capabilities to move the nation forward.

He stressed further that, “if you can dream it, if you can believe it, then you can achieve it. Unlike the town I came from in US, here in Nigeria, anything you put on ground will grow,” he noted. He expressed dissatisfaction with the inability of Nigeria to explore her own potentials to her advantage.”

The former US mayor said that Nigerian must retraced her abandoned culture and tradition, seek forgiveness from the abuse of her elders, appease God and retrace her way.

On fair note, Obasanjo has done a lot for this country and Africa but he spoilt the show by forcing Yaradua on us. Remember Nigeria has direction during his regime before he started fighting with Atiku.

The worst of his administration was the scandal in the power sector. As 4 international recognition, i tink his fight 4 corruption gave him that even as he used the likes of Ribadu & El-Rufai as guinea pigs and rubbished Atiku. Now, see our Yar'adua. I just pray God should strengthen him the more. God help Nigeria
