CURRENT OPPORTUNITY AT A LEADING DEVELOPER OF CDM RELATED PROJECTS IN NIGERIA

Our client is a leading developer of Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) related projects in Nigeria and is committed to furthering the sustainable development of both the country and the region. With support of its technical partner, it has developed strategies focused on projects that support sustainable development through carbon emission reduction. The Company works primarily on developing projects under the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) of the Kyoto Protocol. The Company supports Nigerian clients by identifying and evaluating potential CDM projects and seeing that the relevant documentation (Project Idea Notes, PINs and Project Design Documents, PDDs) are properly prepared and submitted to the U.N and relevant national agencies. Using the United Nations’ Framework Convention on Climate Change as a guideline, the Company is focused on CDM development, sourcing of high quality emission reduction projects and in advisory roles to governments and corporate organizations.
This position requires strong technical skills, intellectual understanding of carbon markets and projects as well as personal commitment to sustainable development.

POSITION: COUNTRY/TECHNICAL MANAGER
Under the guidance of the MD, responsible for day to day management of the office, on-going client development and relations, and the overall technical accuracy of the Clean Development Mechanism activities. Responsibilities include, but is not limited to:

1. On behalf of the MD assure the day-to-day responsibility for client and administrative activities;

2. Client Development:
a. Identify and with the MD contact and meet with potential clients so as to inform them of CDM related issues and the related opportunities
b. Liaison with clients so as to identify and assess potential CDM project and assure their technical validity and fit with CDM methodologies
c. Maintain on-going relationships with clients

3. CDM Development
a. Assure that the technical projects proposed are technically sound and can be implemented as described (and potential for generation of carbon credits).
b. Be thoroughly familiar with the relevant UN approved methodologies used for developing the PDDs
c. Assure that clients provide the appropriate and complete technical information to prepare the PINs and PDDs and assure that this information is properly described and analyzed in the PINs/PDDs
d. Directly participates in the analysis and writing of both PINs/PDDs and takes responsibility for their overall drafting
e. Identifying a suitable DOE and Communicating closely with the DOE on verification, validation and audit

4. Administration
a. Direct and work with staff and consultants on the projects
b. Train staff on these issues
c. Prepare regular budgets and expense reports
d. Assure that all client contracts are administered correctly
e. Assure that all related contracts (e.g. with DOEs) are in place and properly administered

PERSON SPECIFICATIONS
• Strong academic background, preferably to the Master’s level, either in a technical field (engineering/science) or in an area with direct relevance for CDM (environment related).
• 5 – 10 years work experience.
• In depth knowledge of the Nigeria/African energy and economic sectors. Experience in the oil/gas; electrical, or industrial sector is an advantage.
• Must have at least working knowledge of climate change issues, Experience with the Clean Development Mechanism is highly desirable.
• A proven ability to play a major part in the establishment of a new business initiative.
• Demonstrated commitment to sustainable development and climate issues.
• English language fluency is a must. Additional languages would be an advantage.
• Demonstrated entrepreneurial ability.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
• Ability to work as part of a team as well as independently.
• Ability to manage a team.
• Ability to manage own work effectively and prioritize tasks.
• Good working knowledge of all Microsoft office applications.
• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
