To prospective ptdf scholars(2010/2011)
Hello house
Presently , I am a PTDF scholar studying in a UK school.
I want to asure you guys that this is a very good chance for those seeking to study abroad to achieve that aim.
Forget about 'runs',it will not necessarily pull you through. Some dudes that claimed to have seen d paper b/4 d exam still didn't make it....maybe it worked for some!
I can confidently tell u that I wrote and passed without any of this thing we call connection in Nigeria. You can even do much better than me because I know I made lots of avoidable mistakes which if u can avoid u have no reason not to be in UK by September.
First of all, GOD is the key! No be by power....80% of the people u will be writting the exam are all above average in terms of intelligence. God can make all the difference.
I see that many people are scramping for past exam papers......please calm down. Try and forget that for now.
It might sound weird, but try and read all u can say till march before u revise with Past question papers(thats if the exam is in April).
Try get hold of any stuff u can on OPEC,Nigerian oil and gas sector(LNG,SHELL,NNPC....etc),current affairs( sports , winners of nobel prize, politics-past and present.....etc).
Just try and 'freestyle' in ur preparation. Read anything you can you consider relevant and be positive because you can't read enough!
For the section B which is ur area, go back to the rudiments of the course...yr 1.yr 2. For the guys going for computing, please u need to dig deeper, it was not funny for mates last year, guess this year will be much better for u computing guys!
The exam is fun ,just free ur mind, read and trust God to do His part, why u no go pass?
In passing, please, forget past question as they might decide to change format this yr .
Good luck people. If you will like to keep this thread moving, you will want to ask any pressing question and I will try and answer such to the best of my knowledge. Time is a priceless resource here so don't expect replies too soon.
Cheers.

Re: TO PROSPECTIVE PTDF SCHOLARS(2010/2011)
PHD: u need to try a field in computing, guesss that is the closest to ur field, but u can recheck the list or mail PTDF for further clarification.
Biochem: Sure u will need to study environmental management, env. science and env. engineering. HSE is not a bad option, the choice is urs to make, remember u have 3 options but ur sect B will be on env.engineering if u go for HSE.
Chem Engr.: No u dont need to. Its risky though but if that is ur best bet take the risk but I advice u go for what u want. prepare 4 it u will get it.
Apply for the gas and purchasing .........forget the so called criteria for now.
I will post all replies here for others to pick up info ,please do bear with me for that.
Hope this helps.
Regards

Ozone repub., I did Material Science in my Bachelor, and I applied for computing. Do you think it can work, and which of the Master's course do you suggest I choose? Thanks

Re: TO PROSPECTIVE PTDF SCHOLARS(2010/2011)
@ OTONGA, as a materials engineer , how knowing what course to choose is not rocket science.
WELDING ENGINERING IS THE KEY or I would av suggested corrosion but ptdf mistakingly omitted it.
There r only 2 schs in d world dat does welding engr, cranfield UK and Ohio state uni, USA.
With welding engr u av few competitors.so kn dull urself
I am a materials engr myself, but a potential welding engr

OZONE, Pls,
Can u connect me with ur friends that sat for Computing
last year. I need to ask them some view questions.
Also, i just came back from India on a study of Embedded systems design and applications.
I shall be waiting for your reply, many thanks.

Re: TO PROSPECTIVE PTDF SCHOLARS(2010/2011)
@LG4KK, u r to expect questions from the section u chose irrespective of d division under the section.
For example material engr section( welding and corrosion), the questions dat came out last year were mostly materials engr questions with 2-3 corrosion/welding questions.read everything under dat section.Guy no fear ,u go pass.
Besides no by who read pass, if it is ur time it is ur time.

Re: TO PROSPECTIVE PTDF SCHOLARS(2010/2011)
thank u lekan, u are the main man.

Re: TO PROSPECTIVE PTDF SCHOLARS(2010/2011)
Sorry for keeping you guys waiting. Was busy trying to meet up with some course deadlines.
So......
Adeoyemi.....sorry I have no friend in that field. So sorry about that.
LG4KK.....Part B is always mixed because of different people drawn to write a bloc from different discipline . They will try to touch most of the courses of people writing any bloc. Just do a nice job for your course and a little of those general courses u did in yr 2/3. It will work out ok.
Otnga.....Yes it can
enjay...Brother,GIS, Instrumentation and control are all nice fields. The decision like I will always say still remains urs to make!
When you start your program, u will find out that most of the stuffs will be a bit strange (depending on ur academic background).u will start from the scratch. What I am doing now was not a bit of what I anticipated but its all fun now.Good luck!

Re: TO PROSPECTIVE PTDF SCHOLARS(2010/2011)
Hi jellyo, u dont need to be confused, just prepare well for the exam ok. The instructions in section B will tell u exactly who is to write what. Moreover, u will have people there to put u through.
For instance, people who applied for chem. Engr,HSE,env.Engr,Bio fuel design, Maritime operations etc where all be instructed to write d section for Environmental Engr.
Sounds strange? The PTDF questions r set by Nigerian Dons, they know exactly how to compose and mix the questions to suite all parties involved.
This should be the least of your worries good friend.See u in UK by september!
As for all those expecting the materials, its gonna be a brief quide,u will have to download it here please.
Kind Regards.

Re: TO PROSPECTIVE PTDF SCHOLARS(2010/2011)
I read mechanical Engineering and choose refinery design and operations..which other sections do u think they could bring involving this course?
-
Re: TO PROSPECTIVE PTDF SCHOLARS(2010/2011)
Hi frank.
PTDF exam has just 2 sections.
Section A is the general paper and section B is the part that deals with ur field of study.
I dont know of yet another section....does this help?

Thanks for your answer.. i did not really structure my question well.. was asking if my own section B questions will be strictly on refinery design and operations?

Re: TO PROSPECTIVE PTDF SCHOLARS(2010/2011)
@ ozone Thanks bruv! you've been very helpful to all and sundry in NHJ, wishing to write the exam this year.
Please, for us who chose Safety engineering and risk management ,HSE and Environmental engr., for the choice of courses, which areas do you think we would probably be answering questions from in the section B?
I would greatly appreciate your kind reply and any materials you may have on them. thanks.

Re: TO PROSPECTIVE PTDF SCHOLARS(2010/2011)
Frank:.....all u need do is to tidy your own course very well. Even if they group u with people from other fields u will balance whatever 'constraint' with your performance in your field which should be enough to see you through...abeg no too stress yourself to read everything in engineering.....guess u will subject urself to unnecessary pressure good friend.
Neeyea: Like I pointed out earlier on (check my old posts please), the grouping is very well organised come to think about it.
Just do ur job well in environmental management wella. Stuffs in engineering that relates to the environment like;BOD,pollution-Bioremediation,phytoremediation,PH of certain natural environments, basic soil science,.....and ..... (at least integration and differention are excluded, lol). Try ok, the input u will make these 3/4 months preparing will not be a waste.
And to all house members that have shown their appreciation to what is happening here I say thanks and God bless you all.
Warm Regards.
