A new thread for NNPC Hopefuls

I have been following this thread from inception, so I am aware of all that has been happening. I have decided to say a few words, perhaps it might be beneficial. If you are waiting for the second batch, know that it will come if it is part of God's plan. Not only that, your name will be on the list, only if it is part of God's plan for you. We are only actors, He writes the script. You could pray for specific roles, but granting it is His discretion. If you know this, then push the second batch to the back of your mind and move on.
Some might see that as being weak in faith, I don't. Some don't want to do it because they believe it implies a lack of faith that makes God to also withdraw His favour, I disagree. First of all, when you move on, there is still a minute part of your heart that keeps hoping the second batch is real, but it doesn't make you limit your blessing to an NNPC job; that part is more than enough to make God do His will. Secondly, your moving on might actually be towards another blessing He is preparing for you, as many have rightly said.
On the credibility of the exercise, no one here can give a definite opinion on that; all we have is speculation. More importantly, you will be influenced by your experience. If you applied and you got the offer on merit, you will be inclined to believe it was a credible process. If you got the offer on wuruwuru, or you were not given the offer at all, you will be inclined to believe it was not credible. It is all a matter of perspective based on experience. However, claiming many got the offer based on wuruwuru without having facts is an assault upon the credibility of those that got it on merit.
For the Muslims in the house, if you did not make the first batch, don't forget to say the prayer recommended by the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) whenever something we are not happy with happens (Allaahumma, ajirnee fee museebatee aadhaa, wakhluf lee khayran min hu -- O Allaah, reward me over this trial, and bless me with something better than it). I swear by my Creator, I have said this prayer a number of times in my life, and I have never been disappointed. I will narrate a pertinent experience.
I finished NYSC in 2004, with a 2.1 in engineering. I barely missed Shell's job in 2005, because I was not short listed after the final interview. I said the prayer, but part of my mind was saying how can any opportunity be better than what I missed? But I moved on. I started working with an engineering outfit and was doing well with that. I continued to apply to the major oil companies and there was not a single one of them I did not pass their tests; the problem has always been the interview stages. I also enrolled on an MSc program in 2006. I haven't finished that in 2009, when I got PTDF Overseas MSc scholarship. I completed that with distinction and came back a year later to apply for NNPC. While waiting for the result, I got another opportunity, and I am back in the UK. I visited home last month, only to receive NNPC's offer as an EH. My initial reaction was that I wont take the job, because of the basic salary quoted on the offer letter. When I called a friend who is an NNPC staff, he gave me details of other allowances, I began to have second thought. I am taking the job now and coming home next month, because I want to be closer to my family. Looking back now, I am happier with Allaah's choice for me. If I had gotten Shell's job back in 2005, I wouldn't have my MSc, or the exposure and experience of world-class education. There are other things I have left out, for the sake of brevity.
In summary, believe in Allaah, and be dutiful to Him, He will do the best for you. If He doesn't give you something you want now, it is not because He does not love you, and vice versa. I wish you all the best.

I have continued to follow this thread all along though I have since accepted my NNPC offer. I think a lot of emotions are at play now. It is quite natural and understandable that those you were not 'lucky' to make it in the 'first batch' would try and criticize the whole process. It is unfair to criticize a whole recruitment process just because you were not successful. I have been to the last stages of Shell and Chevron recruitment processes and at the end of the day, I was not successful. I MOVED ON. It is natural to whine and complain now out of emotional pain but my advice is that you get over it and move on with life ON TIME. Don't spend eternity sulking. It won't help. The cry and outburst of the unsuccessful candidates is borne out of the frustation of the Nigerian system - poverty, corruption, greed, nepotism and high corruption. In a country where these viles are commonplace, it will be very difficult for a frustated but highly intelligent graduate to accept that the NNPC recruitment was based on merit. I won't blame NNPC for conducting a free and fair recruitment; I would rather blame the precarious Nigerian situation that makes it difficult a graduate to believe that NNPC can actually and did recruit on a merit basis. I personally know and met a lot of new NNPC graduate trainees that got there on merit. Many were working in reputable organizations, many graduated with a 1st class and strong 2.1, many had top postgraduate degrees in the most prestigious schools abroad. I have met well exposed people who do not know even a security personnel in NNPC. I am an example. So friends, I feel the pain. I have felt in the past. I advise that you do all the whining now but have the strength to move on as soon as possible. God bless.

How quickly nigerians can change! Where these not d same persons insulting nnpc during d long wait? Who said d process is dead becos nnpc was recruiting thru d back door? Were these not among those who approved d article 2 b published? And what was its content? Was it not nnpc corruption, failure 2 complete d process and pay transport fares? So u have all 4gotten how far. My advice: 4get not ur past, 4 u know not ur future not even 2morrow. IF NOT 4 GOD, can u guarantee dat u will be alive dis time next year? It has gotten to the extent of people almost threatening the lives of the successful ones. Like I said, a lot of emotions are at play. People who are at their emotional moments will say almost anything. My advice remains: Continue the emotional outbursts but learn to move on as soon as possible. I sincerely feel the pains of the unsuccessful ones. I rest my case. God bless us all.

Please even after agreeing that we should bury whatever went down on the recruitment process, someone would come from nowhere and want to drum it into our ears that it was very credible and fair. Lets all move on with our personal experiences as we can go on and on without reaching any compromise. whatever has happened has gone down and there is really no need telling them to release the list to prove its credibility because this too can be manipulated so lets move on afterall what happened in NNPC recruitment cant be different from what happens in the society. what happens there is an extension of what happens in the society where it is.

On another note lets also think of the people that made it in life and know that had they dwelt on things they could not change in their lives, they would not have gone far. The issue here is that we all think that after going through education, we must all do white collar jobs but amongst us we have budding enterpreneurs, employers of labour who would later in life look back and say "thank God I did not pick that job". but for those of us who are the josephs of this thread, He will make it beautiful in His time.
