What about the newspaper publications please?
ur contribution was a good one. to me the house should accept it. No time at all.
Bebrief,
Please can we hear from you
Bebrief pls pm me ur fone number. I hv tried fwding mine 2 u but to know avail
I accept the thursday protest and this time NO GOING BACK, even if there are 5 plane crashes, whether it involves top mgt staffs of NNPC/DPR it wont stop d protest. Thats my humble submission
I've always been in support of d protest and as @ yesterday, I was ready to be at Total Filling station this morning. But there was no doubt in my mind that d most sensible tin to do will be to stand down n wait 4 d right time.
I support d protest to be shifted till Thursday. As painful and unfair as it is, life goes on...
i believe the new thursday date has its merits & demerits, but id suggest that b4 we begin choosing another date we should put certain things into consideration, for one i think thursday is 2 soon after the mourning and besides channels tv just reported Austin Oniwon is in USA attending a conference. i wd hv prefered a day/date close 2 a wednesday so the FEC can consider it in thier next meeting.
Or next Monday??? Its just d thot of it being too late dat scares us.
Thursday is very much OK. We dont need Austin to be in Nigeria before we carry out our protest cos he is not even the reason for the delay in the release of the letters. Remember even he Austin takes orders from above. The FEC will consider the issues resulting from the protest whether we protest close to a Wednessday or not so it doesnt make any difference. Pls lets stop peddling with flimsy excuses on this protest cos the 3days mourning period consideration we have observed is the only reasonable excuse that arose so far. Thursday is very much ideal for this protest which in my own calculation is even LONG OVERDUE. Remember a stitch in time saves nine. We are already running out of time and might soon find ourselves swimming against the tide.
@All,
I have been silent since yesterday for a moment of silence in honor of those who lost their lives in the ill-fated Dana Airlines plane crash...May their souls rest in peace, Amen. As we enter the second day of National mourning, we grief our country - a place where things cannot be done rightly, where faulty planes are allowed to fly in a bid to make "more money", where in the midst of daunting unemployment figures, recruitment are conducted by government parastatals and after 2-years there's nothing to show, even after money has been allocated and approved for the process.
However, we shall not relent in our efforts as future leaders to right these wrongs, even in our own little ways and by drawing the attention of relevant government bodies through civil/peaceful means to this evil menace.
But be that as it may, we allowed only one publication on Page 6 of National Mirror newspaper of yesterday 4th June, titled "Alleged recruitment scam rocks NNPC, DPR". Thanks to @debrown and Tordue Salem (the Journalist who summarized and published our press statement into a beautiful exposé). Also, the press statement were delivered and acknowledged at the office of the Zonal Manager NNPC, 22 Miverton Street, Ikoyi Lagos as well as the office of Director DPR, 7 Kofo Abayomi Street, Victoria Island Lagos. Later, I will make scanned copies of the publication as well as the acknowledged copies of our letters to those who have not yet seen it yet.
We may have to give some time (at least a week) for these sad events to pass by, though we might be greeted with the news of a management change in the NNPC anytime soon, and we pray that when it happens or before then, our letters will be speedily released. From the comments and reactions I have received from various quarters, I believe these pockets of efforts so far have made some significant positive impact. Let's now pray and watch to see if the desired result is achieved soon, if not we can then re-strategize.
The struggle continues, but for now we shall weep with our people, and pray for the families of the victims of these multiple weekend disasters over the weekend, which includes the Bauchi bombings, the Lagos trailer explosions, the Ghana cargo plane crash, as well as the Dana Air mishap, that God may grant the families the fortitude to bear their loss and eternal rest to the souls of the departed.
the incidents of the past week,is sincerely sad and calls for a sober reflection on the state of infrastructure in our nation.
these infrastucture can only be manned and maintained by a progressive workforce.
the rot in the oil industry is as a result of the low standards in the work force.
we have called off the protest, but even if it had held,it would have failed or made low impact.
with time on our side now,it is important that we strategise on how to make the protest, have impact.
i spoke with some brethen in the human rights and labour community, and these are some things we did not do.
1) we need to be organized..as in a name, a contact address and clear line of leadership.(a headless org is a monster)
2) we need to inform the police, the state security service and the NNPC mgt through correspondence of the protest.(be sure it would get the presidencys attention thereafter)
3) we need to sensitise the public,by creating awareness via television, radio and newspapers 0f thr problem and planned protest.(talk shows, kaakaki, etc)
4) we need to elicit the support of human rights activist to support and speak at the rally,...femi falana, olisa agbakoba, mike ozekhome, etc
5) we need to meet and create departments and directorates (contact persons) to handle the different areas.
6) a world press conference on the day of the protest, at the NUJ lighthouse in ogba.
7) branded shirts, flags, banners and posters.
8) public address system.....batteries etc
9) clear cut journey mgt....commencement and closing
the intent is to pass a mesasgae in a simple but effective manner
regards
@Bebrief: I sincerely thank u for the effort made. However, I am pleased to make the following remarks In good spirit as drawn from what u mentioned.
1) That we are future leaders is not invoke any longer. That future is now and its on the past. Mind us that Rtd buhari is still waiting to be our president after 20
somethg yrs ago. Which future are we talking about. Pls, let us have it now.
2) Though i appreciate the publication on the National mirror, I believe one of either punch, vanguard, the Guardian and thisday newspaper will do us a lot good and the
needed attention.
3) We just can't keep mourning. We need attention to be noticed, and Thursday should remain in my own opinion.
One luv.
@JA:
Good morning and thank u for all the effort. While I appreciate the outlined procedures, the Jesus army i now will inform the house which of these procedures the house stand to achieve through his wisdom. For me, I can work towards getting few branded shirts for the lagos chapter and banners. So help me God. Aluto 4ever.

The head of Abuja office of the Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR), Mr Anthony Nwaokagbara, was among the victims of the Sunday plane crash in Lagos. Also, Dr Emmanuel Asuquo Obot, Executive Director of the Nigerian Conservation Foundation, was among the victims.
OBOT was a PhD (Botany) holder with main areas of work on Biodiversity Conservation, Biodiversity Related Research, Project management, Sustainable Development, Forest Resources Policy, among other studies.
@All: With this announcement, I buried all the insults poured by ABCD and I urge all of us to converge with NNPC hopefuls in black T-shirts to condole Madam Minister on the lost of DPR/NNPC staffs and fire her with demand of our letters either on Thursday or Monday as agreed, I promised to wear a Nija Delta hat with SAKABU inscription on that protest day. Am just by the side of a top shot in NNPC and he appreciates our effort and happy with what we are pushing, he urge us to do it very very soon because he said madam minister is too SELFISH!

By Adeola Yusuf Senior Correspondent, Lagos
The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) at the weekend faulted the 2012 budget, stating that the $75 million approved for it by the National Assembly for inland basin exploration among others, was grossly inadequate.
Group Managing Director of the corporation, Austen Oniwon who stated this while welcoming members of the House of Representative Committee on Petroleum Resources (Upstream) on an oversight visit to the NNPC Towers in Abuja, blamed the National Assembly, in a statement issued by the Group General Manager, Group Public Affairs of the NNPC, Dr. Levi Ajuonuma, for the setbacks in the oil exploration activities at the Chad basin with its “paltry” appropriation.
“Last year we proposed a budget but we got just $230,000 which is totally inadequate. This year we proposed a budget of $ 269m for 2012, we only got $75m. So our desire to explore for oil in the Inland Basin is being defeated because of poor budgetary allocation,” he said.
Oniwon, however added that, “but we will continue to try our best so we can open up the Inland Basins to produce more crude and gas for this country.”
On the oil exploration activities at the Inland Sedimentary Basins particularly, the Chad Basin, the GMD lamented the paltry appropriation from the National Assembly which he stated is slowing down the tempo of on-going oil search in the area.
The NNPC boss, in the same vein, called on the House of Representative to assist the oil and gas industry in combating the menace of illegal oil bunkering and crude oil theft which is currently hampering the smooth operation of the petroleum industry.
Engr. Oniwon however reiterated that the nation is currently losing about 180,000 barrels of crude daily to the activities of the crude oil marauders.
“The first challenge which I would like the House to help us with is the high level of insecurity of oil and gas facilities. As at today our operations have been severely handicapped by the activities of these criminals. We lose almost 180,000 barrels of oil per day to criminals. If you reflect back that the total amount of crude produced per day in Ghana which sustains the whole country is about 120,000 barrels, yet as a nation we lose more than that to criminals,’’ Oniwon stated.
The GMD intoned that beyond the financial damage to the national treasury, the bigger implication lies in the near permanent environmental damage to the zone where these illegal activities take place.
The NNPC helmsman warned that if left unchecked the environmental damage wrought by the activities of the oil thieves and illegal oil refineries could make the Ogoniland pollution sage look like a child’s play.
beloved general, welcome back. on this matter,i disagree with you in principle.
the HMPR meant well for the process. she was overwhelmed by corruption.
she come from a well structured background and hoped to practice it in the NNPC.her only crime which i dont blame her,is for not carrying people along, ijawlizing the process and bringing her boys from shell to take over the experienced hires and contarct staff positions.however, the GT is the future of the NNPC.we must encourage her to do what is right and complete the process, without fear or favour.we are fully behind her in this revolution in the industry.
I spoke with Bebrief and all i can say to him is WELL DONE.
Action all the way.
@JA: Nice one. Also endeavour to join in coordinating this process.
@ALL: This struggle needs one thing to succeed " Commitment"
Commit Money, Time and creative thinking.
Togther we shall succeed.
Jesus army i apreciate ur comments & suggestions regards 2some steps 2be taken but i must remind us dat d essence of d protest is 2mount pressure 4d release of d letters thru d creation of awareness. We're nt embarking on a long time project which u seem indicate by d 2numerous things dat needs 2b done b4 d protest. We dnt need 2go & get a registered office nor put organisational name & structure in place, neither do we need 2go &pull out some very notable activists b4 we make serious impact .Going 2brand t-shirts 2me is an unnecessary expense bt if we can afford such, then fine. Moreover i can assure u dat anyone exposing his or her true identity during d course of dis protest can be sure of having forfeited his employment chances cos they can always tell u dat u didnt scale thru d intervw.Pls lets be more realistic so as not to manufacture stumbling blocks 2dis protest & end up not taking any action at the end of d day & like i've always warned, remember" TIME IS FAST RUNNING OUT ON US.
@JA,Tanx.@bebrief,wish i have a sista 2giv u 4 a wife.e 4 b no bride price.@gen SAKABU,welcom back. U shudnt hav stand down.i salute dis house.bliv all hopefuls on dis thread deserves dis job.4 a great positive impact it wil reflect on NNPC
i think we should extend this call to all those are 'hopefuls' in any pending recruitment in govt parastatals. this campaign is against unemployment and injustice. we can even involve labour union, i.e, NLC.
Time is not on our side. I employ JA, Bebrief, happinext,Sakub and many others to fashion out the way forward knowing too well dt meeting all it take for a peaceful protest may not be possible and we must move ahead. we can inform the police, very important. And also get in touch with the media. Behave ourself in a civil manner. Appoint a spoke person for each zone. Most of which we already have good reports upon. I am only not sure about that of police correspondence. We don't need to inform NNPC. The police will do that. one luv.
what is worthdoing,is worth doing well.
foremostly, we dont really need an office.just a contact where the group can be reached for negotiations.[
i wouldnt go to war, without a leader. we need to be organized.
the offices of hese actvist are in lagos and abuja..visit them and express your problems. they would advise.it also lends credence to the protest. imagine the confusion, that we dont know our selves, how much more our hosts. we would seem unserious.
listen, we have to reason that we may not be the ones to benefit from this struggle, but never again, would govt agencies toy with the destinies of its youthsQUOTE=jonkal;627310]Jesus army i apreciate ur comments & suggestions regards 2some steps 2be taken but i must remind us dat d essence of d protest is 2mount pressure 4d release of d letters thru d creation of awareness. The NNPC GMD, Engr. Austin Oniwon would have retired b4 ending of this month. Check today's Guardian, Kaduna Refinery Company just employed 105 youths in its operational area, to be traineed. Most of them are O'level, 2 HNDs, 1 University graduate. So, IM AFRAID OF THIS OUR NNPC RECRUITMENT, TOTALLY AFRAID.
They are unconnected.
NOT fewer than 105 unemployed youths in Kaduna have been recruited by the Kaduna Refining and Petrochemical Company (KRPC) into its Youth Empowerment and Skills Acquisition Programme (YESAP), as the management expressed commitment to equip successful trainees with other tools to facilitate their start up after the programme.
Members of management of the KRPC who flagged-off the training exercise for the new intakes at the weekend said that a total of 405 unemployed youths from the communities where the oil company is cited in the state have so far benefited from the skill acquisition programme since the commencement four years ago.
Besides, the Managing Director of KRPC, Mr. Bolanle Ayodele in an opening address, said that “in the four years of its existence, this programme has empowered over 300 youths and here is another batch of 105 selected from different parts of our host community, ready to embark on the journey of self-development and self-reliance”.
According to Ayodele, “we have increased the number of the trainees from 105 and have also engaged the services of the top class consulting organisations - National Directorate of Employment (NDE), HUSAK Consulting, Hanzy Beauty Institute, the National Agricultural Extension, Research Liaison Services (NAERLS) of Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) Zaria to run the programme”.
The KRPC boss urged youths penciled for the training programme to understand that “ You have the privilege of being chosen by your communities to participate in the programme, should make the most of the rare opportunity”, pointing out that “KRPC has invested huge sums of scarce resources, time and energy and your various communities have reposed a lot of confidence in you to be in the programme.
“It is my hope that the investments will not go to waste. We have received heart-warming reports that many of the past beneficiaries of the programme are now doing well on their own”, Ayodele noted.
Meanwhile, in an earlier speech, the Manager, Public Affairs Department of the Refinery, Mallam Abdullahi Idris explained that KRPC embarked on the empowerment of the unemployed youths in the communities where the company operates as a gesture of social responsibility, noting that “this is no mean feat on the part of KRPC management considering that the present harsh economic climate is forcing many presumably buoyant organizations, to all together cancel some of their projects or at best down-size them”.
Those participating in the training programme, include 95 Senior School Certificate of Education (SSCE) holders, nine National Diploma holders, three NCE holders, two HND holders and one bachelor’s degree holder.
Hmmmmmmmmmm....
While every information relating NNPC/DPR is very important to us, I think we should agree on our next line of action. Have we informed the police? if yes, good. some one promised to copy the house with such correspondence sometime this week. Who did we chose to be our spokes person? My mind tells me Bebrief. We have the lifeline now and can only act now. Some time some day, these things will be in the past. May the God of David be our helper. The greatest advantage of this protest is that it will send a far reaching signals to all Nigerian.
Are u all confused. Pls be focus. 4get all dis stories on national dailies. U just stage 3-day consecutive protest and u will c dat d recruitment will b revived. A stitch in time saves nine
Thanks nnpcguy. I've always hammered on this issue of doing whatever we have to do quickly. All the people trying to meet all the conditions that have been outlined may i remind ur that even the SNG and the NLC has never put all those types of conditions on ground before embarking on peaceful protests in the past & if Nigerians are what we are know to be, i tell you that in no distant time, the zeal 4dis will be quenched and just die a natural death & we'll end up not doing anything at all. If you take a very close look at the response on this thread with regards to the willingness and support for the protest and compare the zeal as at last week with what you have at the moment then you'll understand exactly what am talking about. All the same what ever the house arrives at, am with you all d way.
Good day forumite,
I want to say a job well done to everyone who has contributed so far especially bebrief...i just want to add that we allow those that are interested in becoming the leaders for each projected protest zones declare their intentions...then other members can then liase with them to see how we can move ahead before monday...cos monday is some "hours" away...no time oooo...if we must have a good outing let's all get working immediately. thanks
Pls. lets start working. each time we write, try to indicate the zone. like Abuja, lagos, Ph and Warri. This enable us to get closer and make our strategist unique.
LAGOS ZONE
@bebrief please help scan and upload copies of the publication.couldn't lay my hands on national Mirror as the newspapers sold out.
ABUJA ZONE.
Is the venue still total filling station in front of NNPC?Time 8:00 AM? Thursday/Monday?
I feel though we need to inform a labour union/man at least.
Haba JA!!!!!!!!!
All dese conditions for what????
Are we going on an unemployment revolution?? Pls d purpose shld only be for NNPC deceitful recruitment.
This's bcos if we embark on a general unemployment protest, den NNPC towers shouldnt b our destination at all. The protest shld b simple but serious. -NNPC IN DECEITFUL RECRUITMENT.
No need for printed uniforms.
No need for registering with activists(unless dey want to).
No need to give NNPC notice.
No need for any election here(on d protest day we'll get a leader).
We've to look harmless but SERIOUS!
Printed t-shirts will make us look hired. We've to look for morale here in this thread. Thursday,i think, is too close. Monday's ok.
Pls this's not a rally of unemployment cos some parastatals have already recruited massively. Just hit d nail on d head- NNPC in deceitful recruitment. Chikena!
