. JOB SUMMARY
Under the supervision of the Director of Engineering, the 3D CAD Technician performs a variety of
design/drafting activities group including preparing/updating installation drawings for projects,
preparing assembly/manufacturing drawings, establishing guidelines and procedures for CAD data
management, and managing workload distribution within the CAD department. Other duties to be
performed as assigned.
1. Uses computer assisted design/drafting (SolidWorks CAD) equipment and software to develop designs.
2. Creates and revises production drawings (detail and assembly drawings).
3. Makes final sketch of proposed drawing, checking dimension of parts, materials to be used, relation of one part to another, and relation of various parts to whole structure or project.
4. Sketches rough layout of machine and computes angles, weights, surface areas, dimensions, radii, clearances, tolerances, leverages and location of holes.
5. Utilizes knowledge of various machines, engineering practices, mathematics, building materials and other physical sciences to complete drawings.
6. Drafts detailed multi-view drawings of machine and products.
7. Draws finished designs from sketches.
8. Prepare dimensional drawings, installation drawings and more complex drawings (plant engineering).
9. Review blueprints, plans, specifications and other customer documentation if service is requested by the application engineer or project manager.
10. Works with Director of Engineering on guidelines for installation drawings which meet and exceed the customer’s requirements (bid and submittal phase). Implement these requirements on drawings sent to the customer.
11. Serve as an information source on planning and design of equipment installations: equipment
and plant engineering.
12. Maintain notes, design calculations and other documentation (like drawings, bill of materials, list of design parameters, and /performance guarantees) for future reference.
13. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of third party items and services data base. Review and modify information with supervision by the Director of Engineering. Make data available to application
engineers and project managers.
14. Establish filing guidelines for drawings to maintain up-to-date drawings
15. Updates Drafting and Engineering Standards.
16. Sets up and maintains an organized file system for production drawings.
17. Converts existing production drawings to SolidWorks.
18. Communicates with tooling, QA, engineering and manufacturing regarding new and revised prints.
QUALIFICATION
• Associate's degree or completion of a technical school in CAD, drafting or related field,
plus at least five years of related work experience: or any equivalent combination of experience
and training that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
• Proficient in AutoCAD
• Knowledgeable of standard drafting practices and procedures.
