WHAT NEXT :This is the question that graduates ask themselves immediately after their programmes and as we all know that Nigeria produces over 200,000 graduates yearly (CHECK YOUR U.M.E and P.C.E CURRENT BROCHURE FOR THE NUMBER OF FEDERAL, STATE AND PRIVATE UNIVERSITIES, POLYTECHNICS AND COLLEGES OF EDUCATION) without making provision for “employment opportunities” including the number of existing “unemployed graduates” which is over 1million presently and remember we still have thousands of “under-empolyed workers” who are seeking for better jobs everyday so, tell me which industry or sector of the economy will absorb this great number?, not even banking industry which is one of the largest industries that absorbs graduates.
You may be wondering that why is it that we are referring to banking industry only, the reason is that for a large industry like this with capital base of not less than “#25b” to be suffering from a disease called “ ECONOMY MELT-DOWN” so, tell me what do you think would happen to other medium/small industries.
We heard from the news that between Dec 1st- Dec31st 2009 about 10,000 staff of banking industry were sacked and they are still trimming down the salary of the remaining workers by 30% even up till now so why cant you think of any biz you can start now.
Many graduates have spent donkey years seeking for ‘unavailable jobs” infact the money that they suppose to use in setting-up their own business some of them have spent more than that money on Newspapers, photocopies of credentials, transport-fare and buying of “cold pure water” to drink and pour the rest on their head to cool their body while trekking in the sun for hours seeking for “unavailable jobs”.
The day you change your “thinking” on this issue of employment opportunity i.e dreaming of working in “NNPC, CHEVRON, GTB” and the rest of them, that is the day you start to enjoy your life simply because you will be “focused” on your personal business and at the same time you will be free from thinking of being jobless after your programme, is not as if these companies don’t recruit at all but, how many graduates can all of them absorb in a year remember, we are talking of hundreds of thousands of graduates yearly so, why cant you stop deceiving yourself and start your own business now that you have the “opportunities” at your finger tips before they pass you bye, don’t forget that “drops of water make an ocean” no matter how small the business may be, start something before today runs to an end. There is an adage which says “opportuinity” once lost may never be regain.
