Overall purpose
This position manages media and public relations in RSSA in alignment with Group Function Communications’ strategy. The position is required to drive perception building brand communication. Initiate, drive, execute and secure consistent, proactive communication through integrated communication activities and plans. Manage change and crisis communications. Initiate, facilitate, manage and maintain relations with external parties such as e.g. press and media, analysts, opinion formers, general public, investors and other external stakeholders.

Responsibilities



  • Secure accurate positioning of Ericsson and ensure consistent communication.
  • Drive communication initiatives, create and implement communications plans.
  • Develop and manage change and crisis communications.
  • Initiate, facilitate, manage and maintain relations with external parties such as press, investors and other external stakeholders.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with key media, trade press and broadcasters
  • Pro-actively use PR as means to build position and perception in wanted areas/categories in the region


Management of PR agencies



  • Appoint and coach spokespersons in the region
  • Responsible for advertorial and other external on-line activities
  • Support global editorial board and manage local ericsson.com sites


Experience



  • Excellent media contacts across Africa gleaned from more than 5 years work
  • Experience preferably with multi-national companies

Technical



  • Consulting and coaching capability – able to help others to make informed decisions; building people’s communications competence.
  • Able to manage daily publishing plan.
  • Strong planning and coordination capabilities.
  • Exceptional numerical, analytical and quantitative skills.
  • Strong decision-making, problem-solving, and improvisation skills
  • Must pay great attention to detail and identify inaccuracies easily
  • Good command of general office administration tools e.g. Microsoft Office etc.
  • Familiarity with digital media is a plus


Business



  • Good knowledge of the telecoms industry, particularly within RSSA
  • Able to Develop and maintain relationships & network that inspire trust and respect, and influence others to make things happen
  • A clear understanding of the business issues and ability to use communication to help solve organisational problems and achieve organisational objectives.
  • Able to handshake and share communications agenda with stakeholders


Human



  • Excellent command of English, knowledge of an additional language used across the region is a plus
  • Ability to turn plans into successfully implemented actions.
  • Innovation and creativity – proactively seek out new ways of working, exploring best practice and delivering original and imaginative approaches to communication problems.
  • Networking skills required for interaction with professional colleagues, VIPs, Media and general public
  • Sound listening and reasoning skills with an ability to read between the lines.

Education




  • A university degree is essential and a further degree or a specialisation in Communications is a plus
