ACCOUNTING OFFICER

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES.
• Supervises and participates heavily in the preparation of timely and accurate financial reports and operating statements in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles.
• Reviews for form, accuracy and completeness detailed reports showing operating and maintenance costs for a variety of projects and purposes.
• Supervises the maintenance of general and subsidiary ledgers and reviews and approves journal entries of various accounting personnel.
• Reviews and may prepare detailed records supporting accounts payable, accounts receivable, payments, collections, and statistics, including monthly, quarterly and annual accounting accruals and reversing entries.
• Analyzes complex financial information and general ledger account activity, recommends correcting entries and ensures that corrections are recorded to reflect accurate results.
• Researches, interprets, recommends and implements approved accounting and other policies to airport management and staff.
• Designs, implements and monitors internal controls over financial reporting and accounting information processes and procedures to facilitate the accurate recording of accounting transactions; recommends improvements as needed.
• Creates and reviews financial and other statistical reports for accuracy.
• Accounts for a large investment portfolio including calculation and recording of accrued interest income and discount/premium amortization.
• Ensures all revenues, expenses, liabilities and assets are properly recorded.
• Involved in preparation of operating/revenue budget.
• Safeguards airport assets by ensuring an annual fixed asset inventory is conducted and discrepancies are resolved or reported.
• Ensures an annual supplies inventory is conducted and journal entries are recorded.
• Other duties as assigned.
• Must report to work on a regular and timely basis and be available to work overtime if required.

QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's Degree in Accounting and a minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible, management level accounting experience.

Comprehensive knowledge of the principles, practices, and methods of accounting with particular reference to general ledger account analysis; considerable knowledge of accounting systems and auditing procedures and practices; knowledge of budget preparation and monitoring procedures.

Proficient in the use of Microsoft Excel; knowledge of MS Dynamic AX or other ERP system preferred; ability to analyze and interpret fiscal and accounting records and to prepare accurate and complete financial statements and reports; ability to plan, delegate, train, supervise and review the work of accounting staff. Participates in the preparation and coordination efforts of both internal and external audits; assists in the preparation of annual operating budget. Ability to understand and influence the behavior of others within the organization in order to achieve departmental and organizational objectives.
