Applications Closing Date30 Sep 2009This is a permanent role Only local applicants should apply for this role Position SummaryThe Team leader , who is either a Geophysicist or a Geologist or both will be a member of the exploration team which will execute in-depth geological and geophysical analysis of the company’s assets and other new venture opportunities. The position reports to the General Manager Exploration .Key Accountabilities•Lead and advise the seismic interpreters within the team to identify, mature and propose economically attractive exploration prospects for drilling through seismic interpretation and mapping of key stratigraphic levels, leading to products such as time maps, velocity maps and depth maps, and generate attribute analysis maps of seismic amplitudes and other key attributes (incl. AVO etc.) derived from seismic data

•Accountable for defining and delivering the discipline-specific work scopes within subsurface work programmes, ensuring full implementation of BG Group's Subsurface Policies and Standards and related processes covering HSSE, EAC, VAF, PRI, Economics etc, incorporating all geological uncertainties.

•Responsible for implementing, maintaining and improving geological /geophysical functional excellence across asset projects.

•Acts as focal point within projects. Provides expert advice on geophysical / geological techniques to asset staff and management and provides first line QA/QC for all technical deliverables within the asset/team.

•Functional oversight of all technical input into geotechnical documents and well operations and ensures all appropriate permits and government approvals are in place for planned well operations.

•Lead in the generation of evaluation reports, well proposals and well planning where appropriate.

•Ensure that all geophysical/geological uncertainties and risks are incorporated into forward exploration and appraisal programs and are incorporated into any estimates of reserves ranges generated by the group.

•Apply state of the art interpretation software and evaluation technology in the delivery of integrated, predictive subsurface models.

•Work with the BGA focal points to develop a credible 3D acquisition seismic program and processing

•Assist GM Exploration to lead, resource, develop & maintain cadre & number of highly competent and motivated exploration professionals.
Unique Knowledge, Skills, Experience and Attributes•Educated to a minimum BSc level in an earth science discipline or its equivalent ; a higher degree will be an advantage
•Proven experience in generating well proposals and monitoring and driving exploration well delivery in a variety of geologic settings.
•Proven experience of subsurface evaluation and leadership skills
•Proven experience in the use of the latest exploration softwares for prospect maturation
•Broad Knowledge of other subsurface disciplines and non-seismic techniques
•Knowledge of exploration drilling and/or seismic operations and processing would be desirable
•Broad experience of working globally in different geological settings – clastics, carbonates, passive margins and track record of contributing to subsurface projects in multiple basins, plays etc.
•Experience of channelised slope reservoirs would be an advantage.
•Proficient in the use of seismic interpretation systems [Geoframe/IESX)] desirable.
•Ability to use all relevant exploration software for prospect maturation, and quick turn around time from lead identification to well proposal generation.
•Acknowledged expertise and experience across multiple countries, basins, plays and reservoirs and a well recognised professional and industry leader)
•Able to influence positively at highest level in BG, JVs and governments.
