Should marriage and children deprive a woman of a job?

Hello pals, need to read your comments about this.

I am a married woman and a graduate in mechanical engineering. I have faced so many descrimination as a woman. The most recent of all was when i went for an interview at NAHCO. I was told i did well in my written and practical test but that because i am married couldn't get the job. It's quite unfortunate because right now i work with a bank but still feel empty since i don't enjoy what i'm doing presently. Do you think i can still make a career in engineering?

Didn't you submitt your CV to them before you were interviewed? Anyway may be you won't be able to peform to the expectation of their vacancy in their organisation.

Hello mam, getting married does not deprive you of anything.may be the vacancy for that particular organisation may not really be good for you.I have a friend that read chemical eng., has three boys and works with schlumberger, in a segment that goes to rig. infact she goes to the rig except when she is pregrant.Keep searching, dont give up your dream job will come by very soon.

In an ideal situation, marriage or children shouldn't deprive a woman of any job. But this is Nigeria! Anything can happen!.

But looking at it objectively, there are some jobs that may not be ideal (just as jc chix noted) for a married woman especially if her marriage and children are still tender.

As for the NAHCO case, I think you should have been given an option to choose if you can cope or not rather than disqualify you outrightly.
