Commissioner’s Comments Infuriate UNAD Workers

Academic and Non- Academic Staff of the University of Ado-Ekiti (UNAD), have launched verbal attacks on Ekiti State commissioner for Education and Technology, Mrs Abiola Ayinmoche, over her recent statement that students of the University are rejected by employers due to poor academic performances.
It would be recalled that, while speaking at an Education Summit organised by Federation of Ekiti State Students Union (FESSU), Ayinmoche said UNAD graduates are being turned down by employers, especially banks, over failure in aptitude tests.
According to her, the situation had prompted the state government to initiate reforms of the university with a view to repositioning it.
But in separate statements, Academic Staff Union of universities (ASUU) and Non-Academic Staff Union (NASU) chapters of UNAD, while condemning the statement, described it as unfortunate.
According to the unions, Ayimonche lacks the statistics to substantiate her claim. ASUU, in its statement signed by its Chairman, Dr Isaac Adanlawo and Secretary, Michael Ayeni, said Ayimonche’s lamentations “indicate that she is presiding over a ministry which she knows nothing or very little about.”
Also, NASU in a statement signed by its Chairman, Mr Joseph Adegbola and Secretary, Mr Tope Akanmu, said Ayimoche's statement “is not only untrue, but malicious, and unbecoming of a reputable personality of her status.”
