NUPENG KICKS AGAINST PLANNED SALE OF REFINERIES, ADVOCATES BUILDING OF MORE.
Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers, NUPENG, has kicked against the Federal Government’s plan to sell the nation’s four refineries next year, insisting that selling the refineries is not the solution to importation of refined petroleum products, but the building of more refineries.
It wondered why government would suddenly wake up to talk about selling the public refineries in 2014, warning that any decision on the refineries without the involvement of NUPENG and its Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria, PENGASSAN, counterpart, would be resisted with everything at labour’s disposal.
The union registered its displeasure in a statement through its General Secretary, Mr. Isaac Aberare, saying it was “worried about the sudden proposal by the federal government to sell the nation’s four refineries next year. Caution must be exercised in the proposed sale as all the stakeholders must be involved, if the plan will see the light of day. NUPENG states that the sale of the refineries is not the solution to the importation of petroleum products into the country but the problem is government’s blunt refusal to do the Turn-Around-Maintenance of these refineries over the years to make them function optimally. We stress that a lot of intrigues, power play, selfish interest to protect the cabal importing fuel had come to play, leaving the equipments in the refineries to rot away.”
The union argued that the nation’s refineries were organizations in the commanding height of the nation’s economy which should remain in the control of government for security and strategic reasons and should not be allowed to be sold to government cronies and front men, as it had happened in the power sector.
“NUPENG is of the belief that more refineries should be established, in the model of the NLNG strategic partnering and more investors given tax holidays and land to enable them construct new ones just like the initiative of the Dangote refinery instead of trying to sell the nation’s assets as scraps,” the statement said.

@Oluwambe_Omolorun, I got this kind of email from NNPC too,,please what is it all about? I'm asking because the recruitment exercise was done in 2011 and it had already been concluded, so I am just wondering if it was a mistake from NNPC recruiting team or just an oversight. Please reply,,Thanks
@segxyboss: the mail you got was because NNPC could not find some of the requisite document in your application.
The recruitment closed late 2012 but the portal has been activated for candidates with incomplete application. It is no mistake, I will advise you comply ASARP!
Best of luck mate!
Thanks bro,,I still don't understand something, but i guess they had already selected the number of candidates they needed and I wasn't selected, I remember I wrote the test and passed, I was invited for interview in Abuja and I went for it. So I thought that was the end of it. Are they going to conduct another aptitude test and interview again or what's going on? Please respond ASAP bro, Thanks
The interview you attended was 2010 recruitment. Did you not apply for the 2012 recruitment? If you did, then they could not find the document.
I don't think I applied for that of 2012,,I lost faith in thoroughness and integrity of their recruitment process, I guess that's why I didn't bother to apply for that of 2012..
It appears there is a mix-up somewhere. One bloke said he received the mail with a lady's name rather than his'.
Well,,I guess I should still go ahead and send my credentials then..or what do you think?
Yeah! You could do, there is no harm in trying.
Cheers!
@segxyboss, if you did not apply , then you will not have a login ID or password.
