He said they only gave to 8 MSc and 1 PhD in my state... Just 9 scholars from Edo? or will they contact more ppl?..........just wondering...

Re: Nddc scholarship 2012 is out
I am with Psalm91 on this one. I think its too early to throw in the towel, the fact that there are many stats who havent even got the rumour that txts and some whose letters are not yet ready are being sent is indication that theres still hope. Until the list is published, we have no evidence of malpractice to present or case to make. If however its published and we confirm our suspicions, I am for letting the the whole world know it via social networks and other media. Like doncheks said, they might go fre but not without enof damage to their reputation. we might even get a lawyer who can take our case for free just for his own publicity. anyway all these will wait until we see the list published. In the meantime, wiseguy culd you that like of the interview list you posted here before i couldnt find the page it was on.

Re: Nddc scholarship 2012 is out
I may not know exactly what is going on but what am sure is that nddc cannot give the scholarship to only 9 beneficiaries from Edo. If this is true, then its total nonsense. In fact it is enough motivation for people from this state to cry foul.

Re: Nddc scholarship 2012 is out
@docheks- thanks for ur support.
I feel so pained that members of this great forum want to wait for the list to be published before they react. That is tantamount to flogging a dead horse. A lot of dirty water would have gone under the bridge! We must forestall the evil machinations of a certain perversive few who have hijack this seemingly transparent process as it were.
Think! It doesn't take more than one day to compile and role out 200-400 letters, does it? The format is same. Just name changing! Of course, there are people that would certainly get the award on merit but I can assure you, a lot of corruption, bribery, nepotism are currently playing out. The names are ready. The profs had finished their work since. But the commission is only dragging their foot only for the sole reason of altering the names.
If we gave them time, a supposed lot that would have benefited from the award would bite their finger and chant curses in the name of NDDC. Now that won't solve anything. We could place spanner in their corrupt wheel. We could go to press to cry foul of the current happenings or we could take make placades and rally around the office for answer.
-
Re: Nddc scholarship 2012 is out
First, we will write the river state police commissioners or the DPO in the area of our protest. We will give them ultimatum of tuesdays nite for NDDC to release the names and we would compared it with those that were interviewed.
Any attempt for us to wait for the list longer than this, put us in the risk of our names being replaced everyday. This acts will cost us nothing. For how long can will continue to live. Dr. Oboh assured everyone of transparent process but the process as it is now leaves more to be desired and we would not accept our fate.
We would direct our fate and put things right. It is a call for action. A call for every Niger deltans whose land has suffered deprivation by the continuous siphon of our oil resources for a few aggrandizement , whose youths they have turned to militants, whose water had been sour by spillage and whose life expentancy is falling everyday. We must stand up. Enough is enough!

Re: Nddc scholarship 2012 is out
Did you guys just heard what Eddy from Benin said. He said only 9 came from Edo state (8 MSc and 1 miserable PhD). That is a big slap to the people of that state who had travel far and wide from oversea to sit for test and again for interviews. And you think your state would be different? We must fight! We are not only going to resist the clandestine list alone but we will resist an abridged version of the list. Each state should go no less than 20 scholars.
We must pursue this demand with zeal and vigour and success awaits us if we took the initiative now.

Judging from Historical happenings NDDC can do that and infact have always down that in previous years. Its fair to say that EDO merely has pockets when compared to other Niger Delta states. Remember the allocation was done on the basis of percentage of oil each state contributes to the overall Niger Delta.

Re: Nddc scholarship 2012 is out
Phoneline has said it all.
No doubt, corruption thrives in secrecy. Our tactics is to make this a public issue.By the time every nigerian begins to talk about NDDC Scholarship (same publicity as Cynthia Facebook murder),the commission will be forced to publish the list.At this time,if they have given awards to people who did not participate in the interview, they will be forced to retrieve those letters.
As for those who feel that all the successful scholars have not been contacted.Trust me.This move is in your best interest.Because the longer it takes, the more likely your names will be substituted.
Stand up for your right.

@wisey..neverdless,9 to seems pretty ridiculous assuming d total sum of scholars intended is 200.i think dy can do better. Guys we are talkin abt (worse case scenairo)hundreds of million naira which we all is smal fry for nddc, considerin our govt. Talk in terms of bilions now. Cheers!

Re: Nddc scholarship 2012 is out
I have followed this thread closey n i must confess that its so sad to see bright niger-delta minds deprived of their rights to quality education. In my opinion, i suspect foul play n some level of financial fraud. Nddc is a fed govt parastatal so its not out of place to think that those officials would have embezzled a decent fraction of the monies budgeted for scholarship as they often do wif public sector construction projects. My analysis is as follows; if they had it in d budget to give out 200 scholarship, trust me the number of those who'll get it wont be more than 100 while, the monies for the remaining 100 will be shared amongst those corrupt nddc officials. Those guys r a bunch of thieves n if Ɣ☺u investigate further, Ɣ☺u'll see that my analysis isnt so far from the truth. I have seen them do it countless times on public sector projects thats been closely monitored, so doing it on this one wont be much of a problem to them. Please lets cry out loud on this cos thats d only way we can stem the tide. Cheers

@Wiseguy and all, i must commend your effort for keeping this thread alive! Though i am not the prospective scholar but my wife whose id i am commenting under. I am an Edolite married to an Akwa Ibomite and she applied under her state, she scored 33 and only two of them got invited from her local government for the interview stage. I thought for the very first time NDDC would do things right but i am disappointed. My only regret is that i did not expedite action as fast as i would to get her CAS statement and subsequently VISA so that she could resume from the day one. If i knew that corporate governance is lacking against the backdrop of what is been preached from the electronic and printing media i would have acted fast. Well, it is a lesson learned! My advice to all prospective scholars and scholars is that you should not look up to a man(NDDC) for help rather look up to God who is the author and finisher of our faith, just imagining God blessing your parents with a contract that will earn them 30m naira, you won't be here asking for a scholarship subsidy. Anyway i rest my case! Attached is the total list of all the short listed candidates for the interview stage. I don't have state by state but the combined one. Wishing you all the best, you can always mail me @ [email protected]. I am a telecoms consultant by his grace, maybe i could be of good help somedays, somewhere, sometimes.

@Phoneline, i think allocation is done base on the quantity of crude oil being produce from your state, i am from Edo state and we have not got enough crude oil from our state. We only have onshore crude oil not deep waters, so pple from Akwa Ibom, Rivers, Delta and Bayelsa stand a better ground

Thanks Ideelove am very overwhelmed with your kind words and concern towards the state of moral decadence that currently cloud government parasatals in general with NDDC being the subject of the matter in this case. NDDC should know that coming against the best minds of the Niger delta puts them in no chance of surviving the fight talk-less of winning it. Lets hope they understand this quick and act because I see Newton's Second law coming in to play soon once Hooke's law has been violated.

@Wisey you are most welcome. Hope you have the list of invitees for the second stage as attached in my last comment? Please spread it around until it gets to NDDC official. Any name short of these in the final list of the successful scholars shall be contested by all and sundry.

Here's summary for last years award. This years figure will differ based on crude production. If it so happens,we will be expecting Akwa Ibom to have the highest number of scholars.

Rivers | 29 | 11 | 40 |
Bayelsa | 22 | 8 | 30 |
Akwa Ibom | 18 | 7 | 25 |
Delta | 16 | 7 | 23 |
Abia | 15 | 5 | 20 |
Imo | 11 | 3 | 14 |

Boss I doubt anyone will really take in to consideration the 76 controversial oil wells just given to Akwa Ibom state since it is still contested in court by Cross river. This is just my thinking though...........

Re: Nddc scholarship 2012 is out
@wiseguy, if the scholarship is awarded based on crude oil production of a state, then Nddc should have stated it from the onset instead of leading youths of along only to dash their hopes. Anyways, it is well

Re: Nddc scholarship 2012 is out
I may not be able to get to PH but am down with the proposed protest. I'll also suggest that if anyone has a link to any of the national dailies who have an established online presence, we could give them this report about Nddc for them to fly on their sites to create publicity. We must not sleep on this

@Dan, i could feel you, but you have to understand that the scholarship scheme is a kind of Corporate Social Responsibility(CSR) to help the Niger Deltans who are negatively impacted in the process of drilling crude oil. I have tranversed all through Niger Deltan state, i am from Edo, i have worked in PH, married from Akwa Ibom and presently i am in Delta State; i could see how a lot of people from oil producing area have suffered deprivation, hunger, ill health etc as a result drilling crude oil in their communities but suffix me to say that this could not be said about Edo where we do not have much oil and we could farm, fished and we don't suffer ill health as a result of the said impact. Base on this little analysis, it will be very unfair for government to sponsor more people in less impacted communities at the expense of the others who are greatly impacted. Our major occupation in Nigeria is farming, these communities do not have farm land where they coulld farm and send their folks to school. Please read NDDC mission and vision statement, that may help you to understand why they give more opportunities to people from Rivers state, Bayelsa, Akwa Ibom, Delta etc than others. Well, this is my opinion and i stand to be corrected; meanwhile i am not a prospective scholar but just like what is happening here and it's very educative to say the least.

@Ideelove, it not exactly as you thick. Edo is the 5th largest contributor of oil resources to Niger Delta. Edo comes before Abia, imo and ondo. Are you telling me those state should go with 5 award each or less.
No one is disputing the fact more slots to be given to rivers and other large contributors. But an interview that was widely circulated and given large media cover, no one expected that they would do less than what they did last year. How could one one slot be reserve for PhD? do u know hom many phd came? That is an insult.
If they don't have the money, they ought not to invite 1128 peoplr for interview who to make fool of them. Most PhDs I saw travelled down from uk and USA. This is never CSR. It is a ministry. There was budget allocatted to it. Don't allow them to use ur head. The president thinks, the ministry is meeting the satisfaction of Niger Deltans whereas the reverse is the case.
BTW, I know ur wife. She wore gown to the interview. she came for hers on the 18th. She told us that the interview was good for her. She was so full of praise for you. How are your 3 kids? You got a good beautiful woman. Do take care of her.

@Phoneline, i understand you.......if other states like Abia, Imo and Ondo are having more slots allocations than Edo state then our representatives need to be questioned including the immediate past NDDC interim MD whom hail from Edo. My children are very fine, also my wife. Thanks
