Congrats once again to everyone that made it..
But then, what happens when the 1.7m DPR is offering is only about one-fifth of what you currently earn? Is it still advisable to resign from a telecom multinational in Lagos for this Technical Service (ss6) DPR job in Warri.
But then job security is 110% with DPR..
Its been 3 years man and some people have moved on a lot from trainee positions.

Dat 1.7 is just the salary per annum. The main juices are the upfront and other allowances they have every year, which am not too sure of the amount but i can tell you that e make sense to keep you very comfortable. The job security and very minimal stress coupled with what you will earn is what makes the job generally GOOD.
With all the additions, you may still earn more in your multinational but as they say, money is not everything... So just weigh the variables and pray to God for further guidance. All the best.

Telecoms multinationals also provide free health care for staff and their families. Frequent and consistent trainings in Europe is very sure. You even get to work on many projects outside the country in Africa with good daily allowances. The annual bonuses aren't bad as well. In fact, you can even work from home without reporting to office.
Having to relocate to Warri and start all over is another major issue.
But then, who rejects a DPR offer???????

@dammy, in ur situation, if ur a direct staff of d telecom coy.(not contract or casual) then just remain there since u ll have faster career progress...thats wat i'll do...then wit ur years of experience u can apply for a managerial position in a more paying IOC. who says u must retire in telecom coy.

Set some years target 4 urself in ur present job wth in which u must av being an employer of labour. Ur prob shd be wht sh i venture into 4 megga money to start flowing in and stop thking of where to stay 4 a secured constant 'k' salary.

I advice u leave for DPR offer because of the security and moreover there are other benefits attached to the basic annual salary. If a job lacks security there wil be no rest of mind no matter how much u are being paid. Pls do not compromise job security with money, you can b dropped there you are in the multinational telecoms company at any time bcos the job lacks such security as compared to DPR. I tell you the people paid that amount in the best paying telecom coy will likely not qualify to apply for a GT job in DPR.I mean they are in their 30's.
Please you have a point by comparing your salary with the N1.7m being offered,but do not exaggerate it.
Someone was offered a job in NNPC with N3.54m salary when the person was already at N6.5m.
The offer was nearly rejected if not that he found out what value was attached to 'other allowances'.

Guy you are in money- N8.5m. I tell you DPR allowances for a graduate level SG 7 or what ever is not up to N3.5million. think about promotion. why many years does someone get promoted at DPR. N3m plus 1.7m is equals to N4.7M compared to N8.5m. You should be thinking of how to make more money work for your self. i work with an oil company and i am receiving N5m as my package. promotion is every 2-3yrs and increment of salary is every year at 10% for basic salary. Your telcoms offer is far better that DPR. Think of how to increase your level of finance and not be a golden worker all your life.Quote:

@Dammytex. The sum total you will receive annually is definitely more than 1.7m. A better estimate is 5.5+/- 0.2 million, by the time allowances are added (that is, after tax). So think in view of that.
With someone of your pedigree and experience, I don't think you should leave your present job. Instead, become an expert in the telecoms industry and earn good pay. Though I know a lot of factors come into pay e.g. job security, aura of working with DPR, ability to rub shoulders with IOCs, overseas training (courtesy of IOCs though not all staffs enjoy this in DPR), internal politics (even in DPR!!), working condition, work-life balance, etc. All these factors, positive or negative, are important considerations.
Promotion comes in DPR after every 3 years (on the average) and it will take you at least 15 to 18 years to get to managerial level (assuming you start with SS6).
Decision still lies with you. I just gave you some info that will help you decide.
