Construction And Building Inspector

JOB DUTIES
** Review and approve plans that meet building codes, local ordinances, and zoning regulations
** Inspect and monitor construction sites to ensure overall compliance
** Use survey instruments, metering devices, and test equipment to perform inspections
** Monitor installation of plumbing, electrical, and other systems to ensure that the building meets codes
** Verify level, alignment, and elevation of structures and fixtures to ensure building compliance
** Keep daily logs, including photographs taken during inspection
** Review plans to determine project scope and compliance with adopted codes and standards; maintain accurate records of permits and daily inspections.
** Inspect existing buildings and premises for change of use, occupancy or compliance with applicable codes
and ordinances; work with the public to ensure structures are safe and ready for occupancy.
** Support office staff and provide counter service; respond to questions, return phone calls and emails; input
correction notices and case-related comments into an automated data base; file and/or scan documents
following field inspections.
** Respond to inquiries from the public and contractors regarding codes and other issues with projects, both
over the phone and at the public counter.
** Use survey instruments, metering devices, tape measures, and test equipment, such as concrete strength measurers, to perform inspections.
** Review and interpret plans, blueprints, site layouts, specifications, and construction methods to ensure compliance to and safety regulations.
** Measure dimensions and verify level, alignment, and elevation of structures and fixtures to ensure compliance to building plans.
** Participate in professional/ public meetings and training, as required.
** Assist with plan review.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education, Training and Experience Guidelines:
** OND qualification AND two years experience in a construction related field. An
Associate’s degree may substitute for the required experience.
