Arise, O Compatriots!!!
Unemployment is the worst disease that anyone can think of. I say it is the worst because it is the only kind of disease that can affect even children that have not yet been conceived in the womb.
In Nigeria today, one is encouraged to go to school even though the facilities are grossly inadequate. Despite the high cost of education a child, an average Nigerian is not properly equipped with the requisite or proper knowledge to succeed in life, from the primary to the tertiary level because of poor education policies as well as poor management and lack of proper funding.
At the end of the below-average education; Nigerian graduates jump into the very rickety and slow bus of job seeking , writing applications after applications, moving from town to town, city to city, state to state and sometimes attempting to cross into neighbouring countries (legally or illegally) in search of the elusive job.
It is boring news to talk about how Nigeria is endowed with numerous resources both tapped and untapped. It is no longer news that Nigerians are one of the most intelligent and creative people in the world. It is also no news that Nigeria has the most cases of embezzlement of funds by office holders and public servants and unnecessary and wasteful spending by government to the detriment of several unemployed youths in the country.
All these ills are condoned because the average Nigerian is either ignorant or misinformed. It is only in Nigeria that classrooms are filled to the brim with uncomfortable or no seats at all. It is only in Nigeria that kids are promoted to another class without passing the basic subjects. It is only in Nigeria that people score above average requirements but lose their placements in higher institutions to people who scored below. IT IS ONLY IN NIGERIA THAT PEOPLE BUY FORMS, PAY UNNECESSARY REGISTRATION FEES FOR JOBS THEY WILL CERTAINLY NOT GET.
Every day, everywhere in Nigeria our youths are ageing yet afraid to begin or start a family because of joblessness or unemployment. Even with this, several employed Nigerians are no better than the unemployed ones because of very poor remuneration. Also, the epileptic power supply, bad roads and lack of basic amenities have disabled some few Nigerians who have dared into the challenging task of self-employment or those in the vocational industries.
Therefore, this is a clarion call to all Nigerians especially the unemployed that with the wave of revolutionary changes taking place in some North African countries and the Middle East, the ‘’ siddon-dey-look ‘’ approach of Nigerians is totally unhealthy for the transformations we so much desire in our dear country Nigeria.
So Arise Nigerians!!!
