"Good Habits to Abide by When Looking for Work!

Finding a job can, and should be, a job in itself. Finding a job can be a trying and frustrating process. Rejection, depression, feelings of hopelessness can become an overwhelming force when looking for employment. The good news is, it can only be so, if you let it.

The best way to effectively job hunt, while minimizing frustration, is to develop a routine.
Make it a your job to find a job!  One way to do this is to devise a weekly schedule of job hunting activities. For example; Monday morning could be the morning that you check local employment ads, newspapers etc. Tuesdays may be designated as the day that you work on producing covering letters and copies of your resume, Wednesdays may be the day that you send out your resumes and Thursdays may be the day that you follow up with potential employers on resumes you sent out the week prior. This is just an example of a routine and it may not be right for you. The point is, develop a routine that works for you and stick to it.

Developing a routine allows you to get a greater sense of control.
Many people let the "job hunting blues" get to them because they cannot motivate themselves. They will often times let one incident where they were rejected by an employer, put a damper on future job searches.

A routine will allow you to feel like you are making progress.
Although you may not see immediate results, you will end each day knowing that you are one step closer to finding an opportunity. A routine also will prepare you for the working world where you will be expected to keep certain working hours. In the end, you will find that a regimented approach will translate into greater opportunities!

Another golden rule of job searching is never to take a rejection personally.
Rejection is very much part of job searches. You will likely encounter numerous rejection letters or negative responses before you find someone who will grant you an interview or give your application due consideration. Take it in stride and tell yourself that it was worth at least getting your name known to the company. Often times, employers are impressed by the manner in which a person accepts rejection.

Meet you at the Top.

One shouldn't get discouraged..ur strength is in keeping on at every time. A person that runs 500m race and gets tired at 490m has forfeited everything....there is grace to keep pressing even when it seems things are not yet they way u want them.

Wishing u the best...

This is indeed an encouragement. Sometimes employers even try to intimidate the course you actually went to the university to study for God knows how long. But keep your heads high don't give up. All the best.

Hi Mae...I suggest that u go with samples of ur best works and create your opening.
If ur work's really impressive to them, they'll find a place for u...life will not give u more than u are willing to invest in it so it's good to take a bold step and look for an opening u can create.

God bless and good favour.

Wishing u the best....

Wink The key, people, is to never be discouraged. Thatz what experience, and this wonderful article, has taught me. Believe in yourself and your capabilities, and no number of "NO!s" can floor you. Be a positive seeker, and always tell urself that the next try might yield a "YES!"
And for the record, Yinka you are the best.

The truth of the matter is that if one only looks around @ the bad things it's easy to lose hope and give up. But thank God there are stories and testimonies of people making it...in spite of the way naija works. We just have to keep pressing and believing that no matter what it may look like right now...the best is surely yet to come.

Thanx 4 d incisive advice, scouting for a job in this "gr8" country of ours can be frustrating sometimes, but me thinks we (and i mean [we) can ocupy till it (our kind of job) comes. get something to do that
1)   is productive
2)  touches lives -  u never know....
3)  exploits your faculties and energy

thanks yinka but i've kept a routine since feb nd it's getting a little boring now. at least when it's a 500 meters race u know how long 2 run. i think it is the not knowing that kills u especially if u're someone as restless as i am. not having anything meaningful to do can be boring nd frustrating. but i know God is in control
