    THE CORPS SERVICE YEAR (II)



    for their next assignment of selfless and patriotic service to their fatherland. The purpose of the course is also to introduce corps members to and familiarise them with the ideals of the Youth Corps Scheme.

    It is compulsory for every perticipant to be inducted through orientation training before service, Nobody joins the orientation prior to service.



    . IDENTITY CARD

    Every Corps members shall be issued an identity Card whichi must be handy at all times, especially on demand by an accredited officials. Any lost identity card shalt be replaced on payment of N20.OO after presentation of Police extract, and sworn affidavit.

    . KITTINGS

    (a) Corps members are issued the following items of kitting:

    I Khaki shirt and trouser, 2PE.shorts, 2 Plain Vests, I Vest with emblem

    i Youth Corps Cap, 1Pair of White Canvas Shoes, I Youth Corp Belt, 2 Pairs of Stocking, I Pair of Jungle boots

    (b) They will, however, bring along with them, their own plates, cutlery, pillows and pillowcases. bedsheets, mosquitoes nets, blankets, water-bottles and torchlights.

    (c) No lost or stolen kits shall be replaced except on payment of actual cost of same through the State Co- ordinator to the Directorate.Headquaters

    . ORIENTATION PROGRAMME AND

    REGISTRATION


    Registration stops at 12 midnights preceding the swearing-in-day.

    PRIMARY ASSIGNMENT

    . POSTING

    The National Youth Service Corps takes care to avoid posting that result in wastage of human resources. Corps embers are therefore, as much as possible, posted to areas relevant to their disciplines although sometimes national need may override this consideration.

    . .REPOSTING

    Wrong posting or under-utilisation of corps members, when established. is corrected through re-posting by the State NYSC Secretariat.

    PROCEDURE FOR RELOCATIONs

    A Corps members seeking rerelocation away for his state of service shall address an application to the Director-General through the State Co-ordinator of the State of Service attaching necessary documentary evidence to support the request. The State Co-ordinator will forward the application to the Director-General with his comments. He is not to suppress the application eitherer recommended or not. A Corps member who has applied for relocation and except under very nusual circumstances shall continue to serve at his duty station if until necessary approved relocation is received forn the Directorate. Permissions shall not he granted to corps members to travel to The Directorate in otder to prisue matters connected with their request for the redep lovtnent

    . COMPLETION OF FORMATS

    On arrival at the Orientation Camp, a Corps member shall be asked to complete formats for the purpose of preparing the Certificate National Youth Service. These formats should be completed very legibly and in capital letters in thehandwriting of the corps member Any carelessness on the part of the Corps member in completing the formats which may result in preparing the certificate with wrong spellings, etc,. shall be at the corps member's risk. Please exercise patience and write legibly.

    . DISCIPLINE

    a) Each Corps members is guided by a Code of Conduct and Bye-Laws of the NYSC, a copy of which will be issued to him at enrolment



    (b) Penalty clauses are provided for contravention of the Code of Conduct

    (c) Confidential Reports are rendered quarterly on each Corps members by his Head of Department

    d) Every Corps member shall be entitled to a fair hearing and trial in case of any disciplinary offence.

    . REMUNERATION

    The following are some financial entitlements

    (a) N8500 OO monthly allowance for each Corps member

    (b) N 1,000.00 transport allowance to State of deployment and another NI .000.00 back home at the end of the service year.

    (e) N528 00 Local Transport Allowance

    . OTHER ENTITLEMENTS

    When a Corps member is made to work outside the official working hours of his place of primary assignment he or she entitled to the same treatment given to the regular officers of the establishments except that a Corps meinber choose to forgo such entitlements in the interest of the Service.

    COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT SERVICE (CDS)

    (a) In identifying with current Nationai objective, the NYSc CDS has ventured decisively into agriculture Thus several corps members who specialise in Agriculture and allied discipl lies and who are posted within the same locality are organised to work in rotational schedules on the farms. Furthemore, the generality of Corp members are expected to under take on a year-round-basis, in addition to their primary assignment, at least one community development project in their neighourhood. individually or in groups, after due consultation with the community eople. Some suggested projects under the year-round community development programme are as follows:



    (i) Mass literacy: Each one teach one or fund the teaching of one.

    (ii) Technologies/ScienhiIic inventions and Fabrications

    (iii) Organising local people to take more interest in indigenous art, drama, music, dances. etc.

    (iv) Youth Corps Agriculturist would organise Famers Clubs, and train local youths in modem methods of farming:

    (v) Public Health Education, immunisation and health care delivery -preventive and curative; and

    (vi) Horticulture, tree planting, - Landscaping environmental beautification. a rid

    (c)Encourage by the success of the infrastructural construction. agricultural and technoiogies experiments, the management of the NYSC Scheme has diversified into some commercial ventures such as

    Tailoring. Printing, Food production and processing. Cottage industries, using local raw materials and Corps Man power resources. ..................MORE

    . WINDING-UP PROGRAMME AND PASSING-OUT PARADE

    During the last week of the service year, corps members are organised into groups to evaluate and appraise the service year Their suggestion, recommendations and proposals are studied, analyzed and subsequently used as basis to further improvement of the Scheme. The Service Year is rounded off with a passing out parade, usually in he State capital, during which certificates of National Service are issued to Corps members, and special Honors conferred on those Corps members whose Performance during the year was adjusted outstanding both it the State and National levels..
