How To Get An Informational Interview - Stage One

Informational interviews are a great way to get a foot in the door with a company or within an industry in general and can give you a big advantage over the competition. but how do you go about landing an informational interview?

There are several ways to do this. To start with, informational interviews can be viewed as fact finding missions. You want to gather as much information as possible about a particular job, a company or an industry, before you decide if they offer the career path which is right for you. Later, once you're clear about what you want, you can use this time of interview to narrow down your choices and get a foot in the door.

Let's start with fact-finding. Informational interviews at this stage of the game are easier to find and less daunting, as not so much hangs on the outcome. At this point your main aim is gathering data and checking what is out there. However, don't forget that you might want to apply to this company in the future and so make sure you create a positive impression.

Make a note of the companies which offer the type of career you are interested in and look on their website for information about open days, graduate schemes and job vacancies.

If they run general open days or days for graduates be sure to sign up. Find out as much as possible about the company before you go and make a list of questions that you want answered. Create a checklist - some of the questions will be answered in the general presentation or any leaflets you are given on the day. The rest you can make a point of asking.

If you do this at several companies, you can compare your notes and see which offers the deal which suits you best.

Another way to gain an informal interview to learn more about companies is to attend job fairs. Go armed with your checklist and copies of your resume. There may be presentations or workshops given by individual employers and if you like what you see, try to talk to a representative of the company one on one. This will probably be brief, so use the time well, to show your enthusiasm and ask some intelligent questions.

This will give you the extra information you need and also help them put a face to the name on your resume. for more info to get your dream job in hand shake visit http://dreanjob4naija..com
