TASKS
The Registered Midwife will provide advance clinical care within the Active Labour ward, Ante Natal Ward and Obstetric High Care Dependency Unit by supporting the functioning of the unit through the application of evidence based and best practice, education, team work and a patient and family centered model of care.
KEY ROLES
- Provide safe quality ethical nursing care to antepartum, intrapartum and postpartum patients in accordance with the Hospital Policy and international standards of evidence based nursing practice
- Caring for and educating patients about their conditions, as well as establishing trust and building rapport with patients and their families
- Guidelines of International Patient Safety Goals and evidence based practice are adhered
- Adapt and maintain a customer-focused mindset that acknowledges the importance and value of the customer, and act accordingly
- Demonstrate technical and clinical proficiency and comprehend its impact on work/unit/patient outcomes
- Participating in patient client safety and risk minimizing activities
- Service culture orientation is integrated and demonstrated in daily activities
- Mutually beneficial relationships are built and maintained with colleagues and multi-disciplinary team
- Records meet legal requirements and are done according to Mediclinic standards (policies and procedures) and accreditation requirements
- Infection control policy is complied with
- Continuous improvement projects are implemented and monitored
- Stock / equipment managed and controlled

- Supervises practical nurses and practical midwives, junior staff and student nurses to ensure the provision of safe and effective patient care.
- Acts as a preceptor to new staff as required.
- Performs in-charge duties as delegated.
- Acts as the lead care provider for women with uncomplicated pregnancy.
- Identifies pregnancy complications and risk factors and refers to the appropriate physician.
- Responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of patient care in accordance with the organisations policy and procedures and the unit scope of service.
REQUIREMENTS
- Locally based candidates with 2-5 years relevant experience in Labour & Delivery Unit with high risk antenatal care in a hospital set up, will be given preference; however, we are happy to consider candidates from overseas, who have the desired experience and qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Midwifery or Diploma in Midwifery with a course duration of at least 3 years in an accredited institute
