ABUJA – AFTER five months of a deadly encounter with precaditis which took him away from public life, President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua last night gave up the ghost.
The late President died after a protracted illness which created a political tension in the country for the period the terminal illness lasted.
Vanguard gathered that Yar’Adua who became the first democratically elected president to die while in office, passed on earlier in the night between 9.30 and 10pm.
Yar’Adua was born on August 16, 1951, and was aged 59
However, as at filing this report, at abou 12:00 am, there was no official confirmation from both the family and the presidency.
Yar’Adua who has been battling acute pericaditis, an inflammation of the membrane around the heart, since November 23 last year for which he received treatment at the King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Centre in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
He was brought back to the country under the cover of darkness in February and since then had been held incommunicado.
Although there was no official statement, sources close to the family said the late President may be flown into Katsina State, his native home where he will be buried today, according Islamic rights.
The former president served as governor of Katsina State from 29 May 1999 to 28 May 2007, before he was drafted into the presidential race by then President Olusegun Obasanjo.He was declared the winner of the controversial election held on 21 April 2007, and was sworn in on 29 May 2007.

In my opinion Yar'Adua died since May 2007 immediately he became president...He's just been a dead man walking before now!
I sincerely hope he won't fall into the hands of another Turai when he gets to the great beyond.

Dagunro,why do you talk badly about the dead.It's a pity he cldnt attend to the 7 points agenda,but he lived and died as a good muslim..how many past president were able to declare thier assets b4 assumption of office?hw many embaked on the amnesty package?hw many did the river niger dredging?He did all these with his compounding health probs..kudos to God for a life well spent..may his sincere moslem soul rest in peace..AMEN!

I hav seen his efforts at da Niger Delta issue. Bt its funy wen u c an oil bunker, smuggler and killer dresd in suite ful of cocaine addresn a nation.
His weaknes in ma opinion was da religious crisis. About da boko haram he said "Take Action". Leading to da cause of loss of alot of innocent lives.

I did not in the least "talk" bad of the dead. I just gave my opinion of what I think about his death.
My point is, He shouldn't have accepted to rule Nigeria in the first place when he knew fully well that He wasn't fit for the job. I am more than sure that had he not been the president, his medical condition would have been better managed for reasons known to you and I.
In all, I applaud his efforts and may God Almighty grant him eternal rest.

He was a good man with obviously good intention,but the point is that he was surrounded with bad people as wife and friends..
Anyone who has experienced health problem will understand the pain our former president went through. Precaditis? Hmmm! i really wish he came out of it. But then again, i'm consoled with the fact that; he died making a mark of difference. May his gently and kind soul rest in peace. Amen!
YAR DUA should be Immortalized just like QUEEN MOREMI, QUEEN IDIA, UTHMA DAN FODIO, HERBERT MARCULAY and other Nigerian True Leaders. In His Ill- health, he saw the need for a change in Nigeria, He took a bold step to address issues that concerns even the minority groups of this great nation.He was particularly concern about change in the electoral system that even brought him to power;so that my generation, your own generation and generations to come can experience true democracy and leadership; leadership born out of the willingness and the zeal to serve Nigeria and to uplift the sufferings of our People.As a nation, and as individuals, let us learn from the works of this man Yar dua,emulate his life style.What song will be sang about you when you`re no moree !!!!!! You came, You saw and you conquered. my fellow Nigerian youths let us put yar'adua's death behind us and move on, as a matter of fact the late president has done his bit to make Nigeria a better place for all of us to live in and now he is no more. it's now left for us the living to contribute our own quota to the development our dear Nation. my prayer at this moment is that God should grant his family the fortitude to bear the loss and also give the new president the wisdom of solomon to make meaningful policies that would better the lives of millions of impoverished Nigerians.
